Police ‘hid’ abuse of 60 girls by Asian takeaway workers

linked to murder of 14-year-old

By JAMES TOZER
UPDATED: 23:12, 7 April 2011

At least 60 schoolgirls were groomed for sex by workers at seedy takeaways linked to the murder of a 14-year-old girl.

Children as young as 11 were targeted by mainly Asian staff at fast food outlets in Blackpool. They were offered food, alcohol and cigarettes in return for sexual favours.

An unpublicised police report produced after 14-year-old Charlene Downes vanished in 2003 found the girls, most if not all white, had been victims of the ‘honey pot’ premises. There were claims last night that the report was suppressed for reasons of political correctness.

Four years later another girl, 15-year-old Paige Chivers, also went missing. Detectives believe she was killed like Charlene, whose body has never been found.

Two Middle Eastern restaurant owners were acquitted over Charlene’s murder in 2007 and the crime remains unsolved.

The pair still run a kebab shop in Blackpool which was also linked to Paige, and she too was identified as a victim of sexual exploitation. Last year police reported that the takeaway was attracting young girls who were being supplied with alcohol and cocaine.

The revelations about the scale of grooming centred around the downmarket cafes comes amid growing concern at disturbing cases involving mainly Asian gangs exploiting young white girls for sex in the Midlands and North of England.

The girls, often from vulnerable homes or in the care system, were befriended by men who showered them with gifts and affection before using them for sex.

Former Home Secretary Jack Straw has said the girls were seen as ‘easy meat’, while David Cameron called on police to follow criminal acts ‘without fear or favour’ wherever the evidence leads.

The Home Office commissioned a nationwide investigation into the problem, which has long been considered taboo by police officers fearful of being branded racist.

Challenging the taboo

Indeed, a former senior detective at Lancashire Police yesterday blamed political correctness for its failure to highlight its 2003 findings in Blackpool.

But the force denied this, saying the report had been available online since 2007 but had never been intended for publication.

Senior officers insisted an intensive programme to break the cycle of exploitation had been a success and that in the last six months 50 of 54 grooming suspects were white.

Shocking claims made in court over Charlene’s murder revealed fears that her body had been put through a mincing machine, with takeaway staff said to have joked that her remains had ‘gone into the kebabs’.

A jury failed to reach a verdict on charges that Jordanian immigrant Iyad Albattikhi had murdered her while his Iranian landlord Mohammed Reveshi had disposed of her body.

A retrial collapsed in 2008 amid failings in the police investigation and the men were paid almost £250,000 each in compensation.

The kebab shop run by Mr Albattikhi and Mr Reveshi has changed its name from Funny Boyz to Mr Beanz. It was refused a hot food licence  last year amid fears about ‘sexual activity’ linked to the premises, but the pair blame a ‘police vendetta’ and have appealed.

Following Charlene’s disappearance in 2003, police found more than 60 girls were being groomed for sex by non-white men centred around 11 Blackpool takeaways.

They were mainly aged between 13 and 15, but some were as young as 11. Yesterday former Detective Superintendent Mick Gradwell warned that research into the problem was being hampered by ‘political correctness and concerns about upsetting community cohesion’.

But Lancashire police denied a cover-up. Assistant Chief Constable Andy Rhodes said his officers were making significant progress in tackling child sex exploitation across Lancashire, regardless of the background of the culprits.

He added: ‘We recognise that in some areas the number of Asian offenders is disproportionate to the population and far from ignoring this, have been tackling the issue head on by working with the local communities, giving presentations to community forums and visiting mosques to raise awareness.’

It was reported yesterday that while most British sex offenders are lone white men, details of court cases in 13 towns showed that out of 56 men convicted of multiple offences of grooming girls for sex, 50 were Muslim, mostly of Pakistani heritage.

Police confirm #EDL Luton demo attended by around 3000 – now see #socialistworker and #uaf sites for a laugh

6 05 2012

Policing Of Luton Protests A ‘Success’

This afternoon’s protest in Luton involving the English Defence League and a counter protest organised by Unite Against Facism and others under the collective banner of ‘We are Luton’ has concluded peacefully.

The combined operation by Bedfordshire Police and Luton Borough Council enabled the town centre to remain protest free in order to allow the community and businesses to operate as normally as possible. Bury Park, a key neighbourhood in the town, also reported ‘business as usual’ during the day.

Two people were arrested during the policing operation for minor public order offences and remain in police custody. One was an EDL supporter and the other from the ‘We are Luton’ group.

The policing operation was mounted with the assistance of officers from around 20 police forces. The protestors themselves are thought to have numbered possibly up to 3000 for the EDL and around 1000 ‘We are Luton’ although these are not confirmed.

Isolated incidents of minor disorder occurred when a handful of smoke flares were set off and bottles were thrown towards officers policing the EDL protest, prompting them to put on their protective clothing as a precautionary measure. During the counter ‘We are Luton’ protest some of the group tried to move away from the main march but were pushed back by mounted officers. No further issues were reported.#

Paramedics from the East of England Ambulance Service assisted six patients, four were generally unwell and two were injured by accident. Four have had hospital treatment.

Assistant Chief Constable Andrew Richer, who led the operation said: “Over all the policing of these protests has been a resounding success and is testament to everyone involved including the community themselves and our partners. It is disappointing that we saw disorder from some members of Unite Against Fascism, who were part of the ‘We are Luton’ march, who attempted to break out of the agreed protest route.

This shows policing of these events is justified as there is such a large area to protect.”
“The policing operation has been in the planning for weeks and the professionalism of the officers was borne out today. We were assisted by 20 forces and it’s a great example of how forces can work together in difficult circumstances.”

“I’d like to thank everyone involved in the planning and execution of the operation, all our partner agencies and in particular the community mediators who volunteered to help us communicate. Their involvement really made a difference. I am confident the town is now back to normal and disruption has been minimised.”

Cllr Hazel Simmons, Leader of Luton Borough Council, said: “I’d like to thank Bedfordshire Police, all the staff at the Council and everyone in the community for coming together and again facilitating a peaceful day in Luton.”

“I was very disappointed that the EDL chose to come to Luton again today so soon after their previous protest in February last year which caused large scale disruption to the people of the town and loss of trade for its businesses.”

“The decision to keep St George’s Square free today for residents to use has proved to be exactly right. The atmosphere in Luton town centre has been positive and relaxed today and people have been able to come into The Mall and also into Bury Park and do their shopping and go about their normal daily business.”

“Initial reports from businesses are that it has been worth staying open today although of course trade was not as brisk as it would normally be.  I’d like to thank all the stores for their support. We’ll be talking to everyone over the coming days and weeks to assess the full impact. Work has already well underway to get the town back to normal.

Cllr Simmons continued: “Again, I would like to stress that what happened in town today does not represent the real Luton. The Luton I know is a town where people get along well together, celebrate our diversity and work together to overcome challenges.”
“Now we can get back to planning an exciting summer in Luton, when we will be welcoming the Olympic Torch Relay and hosting the fabulous Love Luton Festival, with top artists performing in our town and our Mela and Carnival for everyone to enjoy. That will be our opportunity to show the country what Luton is really about.”

All roads that were affected by the policing operation are now open and the town is returning to normal.

Stockport rape gang charged #edl #casualsunited

7 04 2012

Four men have been charged with rape following an investigation into the sexual exploitation of teenage girls in Stockport. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the alleged attacks occurred in Stockport between 2009 and 2011, when the two victims were aged 14 and 15. Shahab Uddin, 24, and Giash Uddin, 26, of Bostock Walk, Chorlton-on-Medlock, and Scott Jackson, 19, and Robert Jackson, 22, of Bramwell Drive, also Chorlton-on-Medlock, will appear before Manchester Magistrates’ Court on May 8. Detective Chief Inspector Peter Marsh, from GMP’s Serious Crime Division, said: “This has been a protracted and complicated inquiry. “We have carried out this investigation in close co-operation with Stockport Children’s Services and the Crown Prosecution Service and as a result four people have been charged. “It would be inappropriate to comment further.” A 25-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of trafficking within the UK for the purposes of sexual exploitation and rape, remains on police bail. Seventeen people who were also arrested and bailed as part of the same operation have had their bail cancelled.

Manchester Community Leader calls for calm after the attacks by his community are revealed

10 02 2012

A community leader has appealed for calm after two alleged ‘race-hate’ attacks.

Afzal Khan, former Lord Mayor of Manchester and joint chairman of the Muslim-Jewish Forum, spoke out after the incidents in Hyde and Rochdale. Police said both were being regarded as racially-motivated hate-crimes because they were perceived as such by the alleged victims. Coun Khan said: “We all condemn any form of violence no matter who it is committed by. It is the duty of everyone who has information to come forward and help the police. “Retaliatory or tit-for-tat attacks will not help.” Two teenagers were allegedly beaten by a gang of up to eight Asian men in Hyde at the weekend. Daniel Stringer-Prince, 17, suffered a fractured skull and two fractured eye sockets. His best friend Kavan Brown, also 17, suffered a broken nose. In a separate attack, a 21-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were attacked in Rochdale by three Asian men. Both were punched in the face as they walked on a footpath close to Sandbrook Retail Park, in Edinburgh Way. The 21-year-old was hit with a bottle before being repeatedly kicked and punched to the head and body as he lay on the ground. The attack happened at 8.15pm on January 28. The thugs ran off towards Deeplish. Det Con Ben Harris, from Rochdale CID, said: “This was a completely unprovoked and relentless attack that has left both victims shocked by their ordeal. “I can understand why this has caused concern within the community. “However, we cannot speculate why they were attacked and I do not want anyone to presume this has happened for a specific reason.” Anyone with information should phone 0161 856 8716 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Ali Haydor, 21, of Croft Street, Hyde has been charged with assault in connection with the alleged attack in Hyde. A 17-year-old boy who was arrested on suspicion of assault in connection with the same incident has been bailed until April 23.

Only 8 suspects to go then

Indymedia encouraging Commies to harass innocent coach companies

7 02 2012

The deranged muppets of Indymedia, in their quest to deny Patriots their freedom of speech and assembly are listing coach companies phone numbers and asking them to ring and harass. A nightmare for the poor girls in the offices trying to do their jobs to be bomabrded with idiotic calls about “nazis and fascists”.

This tactic is not only pathetic but also pointless and Ill tell you why. Next time one of our girls books a coach for a demo this is how the conversation will go.

Me: “Hi can I book a coach please?”

Coach employee: “Yes love where are you going?”

Me: (Depending on where demo is) “Alton Towers/Legoland/Blackpool/West Midland Safari Park” etc

Im sure you get the picture. These people are running a business, and they dont know who they are carrying and they dont really care. So waste your time ringing them if youve got nothing else in your life and it makes you feel better, but you wont slow us down one bit. You’ve tried it before and even companies whove told you they wont carry us again, have done. We just get a different person to ring. Easy peasy.

We are paying customers and weve never wrecked a bus yet. If Muslims attack the coach thats a matter for police and insurance companies, not us.

Hyde, Manchester race attack latest

7 02 2012

Daniel Stringer-Prince, 17: Why me?

A teenage boy who is fighting for his sight after being brutally beaten in a suspected racist attack today asked: “Why me?” Daniel Stringer-Prince, 17, was attacked by a gang of men as he walked through Hyde town centre with his best friend. The trainee chef was kicked and punched as he lay on the ground. He suffered a fractured skull and two fractured eye sockets. Surgeons will need to rebuild his right cheek with a metal plate. He has now managed to open one eye. But he will have to wait until later this week to find out from experts if the damage to his right eye is permanent. His friend Kavan Brown, also 17, had his nose broken in the unprovoked attack in Nelson Street. All the gang were Asian and the police are treating the attack as a race hate crime. Officers say no racist comments were made during the assault but the victim believes it was a hate crime. As he recovered at home in Woodley, Stockport, Daniel told the M.E.N. of his terrifying ordeal. He described how he and Kavan were attacked on Saturday night as they walked along Market Street on their way to Asda. They planned to go home and watch a film. But as they passed a kebab shop a man inside banged on the window, produced a knife and made a throat-cutting gesture. The pals walked on, but a group of men came out of the takeaway and ran after them. Daniel said: “After a while we had to give up running because there was nowhere for us to go. They were older than me. One of them grabbed me, so I grabbed him back. He hit me in the face and that’s about all I can remember. Next I remember Kav coming up behind me saying ‘It’s all right, I’m here for you’. Thank God he was there.” A taxi driver who witnessed the attack pulled over and called an ambulance for the teenagers. Daniel said: “I’m upset and feel really down. Why me? I don’t know why they chose me.” Daniel’s mum, Cheryl Stringer, said: “They are evil thugs who picked on two innocent lads. “Daniel has come home from hospital but will need to see a specialist in the next few days to assess the damage to his right eye. Thankfully he is able to open his left one a little. Daniel was punched and was then pushed to the ground and kicked in the head. They also took his wallet. “I cried when he opened his one eye – it was a huge relief, we were fearful he would lose his sight completely.” The pals were attacked by seven or eight men who are described as being Asian, in their late teens or early 20s. Det Insp Dave Moores, from Tameside CID, said: “One man has been left seriously injured while another is nursing less serious cuts and bruises. “I completely understand why this would cause some legitimate concern in the community, but I do not want anyone to jump to any conclusions about this. “This type of incident is unusual in Hyde, but that does not lessen the impact on the victims, their families and the wider community.” Cheryl added: “Daniel doesn’t drink, he doesn’t smoke and he doesn’t do drugs. He’s a quiet lad. Maybe that’s why they picked on him and Kav, because they’re both such good, innocent lads.” Anyone with information should call Tameside CID on             0161 856 9250      , or Crimestoppers, anonymously on             0800 555111      .
