A woman was horrifically sexually assaulted while working alone in a fast-food restaurant.

She was attacked as she prepared to open a city centre branch of Subway by a man who knocked on the door begging to use the toilet.

Leicester police want to trace this man

She reluctantly let him in and he turned on her.

Yesterday, the woman, who is in her 20s, told the Leicester Mercury about her ordeal in the hope it would help police catch her attacker.

She has agreed for details of the incident – such as the fact she is a member of staff at the shop in Charles Street, Leicester – to be released in order to tell her story.

She said: “This is a very dangerous man and he needs to be arrested. He was touching me all over my body. I kept telling him to stop but he didn’t listen to me.

“I told him I was going to call the police and there were cameras inside the shop, but he didn’t care.”

She believes the man is eastern European and had been drinking.

She said: “He came to the door while I was getting the shop ready for opening.

“He asked if he could come in to use the toilet, but I told him he could not because we were closed.

“He went away but came back again and begged me to let him in to use the toilet.

“He seemed really desperate so I let him in this time. I really wish I hadn’t.

“The police and the manager here at the shop have been very supportive. I just hope someone knows who he is and tells the police his name.”

Detectives have released CCTV images of a man they want to trace in connection with the attack, which happened shortly after 6am on Friday.

After the man left the shop, he ran away along Humberstone Gate away from the city centre.

A Charles Street business owner, who asked not to be named, said: “This is horrible and it has upset the women who work here, too.

“It’s made them feel very unsafe because they think if this man has done this once he will do it again.”

Detective Constable Jane Everson said: “This woman was subjected to a terrifying and distressing assault.

“We need to trace the man responsible and urge the public to take a look at the images.

“Do you know this man? Did you see him running through the city centre at this time?

“Maybe you saw him hanging around in the city?

“It doesn’t matter how insignificant the information you have may seem to you, to us it could be significant in our investigation.”

The attacker is white, aged about 25, of medium build, with short, dark brown hair.

He was wearing a black hooded top and jeans.

UK Border Agency has a backlog the size of #Newcastle #edl #casualsunited #toonarmy

23 07 2012

23 July 2012

The troubled UK Border Agency faces a backlog of cases equivalent to the population of Newcastle, MPs warned today.

Missing foreign criminals, failed asylum seekers, illegal immigrants and others refusing to leave the country make up more than 275,000 cases which the agency still needs to deal with, the Commons Home Affairs Select Committee said.

Keith Vaz, the committee’s chairman, said the backlog, which will take years to clear, was unacceptable, adding that the agency seems to have “acquired its own Bermuda triangle”.

“It’s easy to get in, but near impossible to keep track of anyone, let alone get them out,” the Labour MP said.

“This is the first time that the committee has collated all the cases at the UK Border Agency that await resolution. This backlog is now equivalent to the entire population of Newcastle upon Tyne.”

The latest damning report on the agency’s work also said the committee did not believe the Government’s aim of cutting the 260,000 student visas issued each year by a quarter would benefit the UK.

Students should be excluded from the net migration figures instead, it said.

Britain would then continue to attract international students, a market worth £7.9 billion, and still be able to aim to meet Prime Minister David Cameron’s pledge to cut net migration from 250,000 to the tens ofthousands by 2015, the report said.

Mr Vaz added: “This will enable the Government to encourage students to come to the UK whilst maintaining their position on curbing immigration.”

University chancellors and campaigners have urged Mr Cameron to class international students as temporary rather than permanent migrants, removing them from the figures.

But Immigration Minister Damian Green has said students staying for more than a year are not visitors and their numbers affect communities, public services and infrastructure.

Today’s report, looking at the agency’s work between December last year and March, also called for the agency to make all its inspections of colleges unannounced, rather than giving them advance notice so key people and documents can be ready.

“If we are to eliminate bogus colleges from the education landscape and employers that abuse the immigration system then visits will have to be unannounced, robust and thorough,” it said.

On the backlog, the committee said it included at least 150,000 migrants who have been refused permission to stay in the UK but who may still be in the country illegally, 21,000 asylum cases, and 3,900 foreign offenders living in the community.

A further 57 foreign criminals who were released in 2006 without being considered for deportation have not yet been traced.

And the so-called controlled archive, used for cases where the agency has lost track of the applicant, contains 80,000 asylum applications and 21,500 immigration cases, the report said.

The agency “does not have a strong record in deporting foreign national offenders” and should set up a team to examine why the foreign criminals living in the community had not been deported and then to ensure that they are sent home, the MPs said.

In future, deportation proceedings should begin as soon as a prisoner is sentenced to speed up the process, they added.

A Home Office spokesman said: “This report highlights the improvements we have made to tackle the huge backlog of cases we inherited. Over 2,000 overstayers have recently been removed following targeted enforcement activity, foreign national offenders are being removed more quickly and we are performing well against visa processing targets.

“Talented students are welcome in the UK, but we have introduced new powers to toughen up the system, keeping out the fraudulent and unqualified while ensuring genuine students continue to benefit from our excellent educational facilities.

“The report has raised some legitimate concerns about issues that we are aware of and are already tackling.”

A gang attacked a man in the street as he made his way home after a night out.

The four men set upon the 30-year-old victim in Melton Road, near the junction with Gipsy Road, Belgrave, Leicester.

The incident happened at about 11.30pm on Wednesday, May 30. Police released details yesterday. Pc Dan Lester said: “The victim received some painful injuries but the results could have been much worse.

“Melton Road is a particular busy road and we know that there was a steady flow of traffic passing by at the time of the assault. We appreciate it is some weeks since the assault happened, but we are still hoping that there is someone who may have witnessed anything and has yet to speak to police.”

The victim has been able to describe two of his four attackers. One was Asian, about 25, 6ft tall and muscular. He was wearing a black leather bomber jacket, black jeans and a black baseball cap.

The second man was also Asian and a similar age and height. He was wearing a green short-sleeved top and black jeans.

Christian hotel owners hauled before court after

defending their beliefs in discussion with Muslim guest

By JONATHAN PETRE
UPDATED: 12:28, 20 September 2009

A Christian couple have been charged with a criminal offence after taking part in what they regarded as a reasonable discussion about religion with guests at their hotel.

Ben and Sharon Vogelenzang were arrested after a Muslim woman complained to police that she had been offended by their comments.

They have been charged under public order laws with using ‘threatening, abusive or insulting words’ that were ‘religiously aggravated’.

Ben and Sharon VogelenzangFacing trial: Christian hoteliers Ben and Sharon Vogelenzang believed the religious discussion was reasonable and deny their comments were threatening

The couple, whose trial has been set for December, face a fine of up to £5,000 and a criminal record if they are convicted.

Although the facts are disputed, it is thought that during the conversation the couple were challenged over their Christian beliefs.

It is understood that they suggested that Mohammed, the founder of Islam, was a warlord and that traditional Muslim dress for women was a form of bondage.

They deny, however, that their comments were threatening and argue that they had every right to defend and explain their beliefs.

The Bounty House Hotel in LiverpoolScene of ‘offence’: The Bounty House Hotel in Liverpool, where a Muslim guest was upset

Mrs Vogelenzang, 54, who has run the Bounty House Hotel near Aintree racecourse in Liverpool with her husband Ben, 53, for six years, said:  ‘Nothing like this has happened to us before. We are completely shocked.’

She added that the episode had damaged their business and they had been forced to lay off staff and run the nine-bedroom hotel by themselves, leaving them exhausted.

Sources said that a number of guests staying at the hotel, which charges £92 a night for a double room, were having breakfast in its restaurant on March 20 when comments were made about religion.

One of those involved was the Muslim woman, who was staying at the hotel while she received treatment at a hospital nearby.

The couple, who are members of the Bootle Christian Fellowship, and their solicitor, David Whiting, said they could not discuss the content of the conversation for legal reasons. But the independent lobby group, the Christian Institute, which has seen both the prosecution and defence legal papers, is supporting their defence.

Mr Whiting, who last year successfully defended street preacher Anthony Rollins in Birmingham, said: ‘There is a dispute as to the facts of the allegations, but Ben and Sharon do not accept they were threatening, abusive or insulting.

‘They are committed Christians and it is the defence’s contention that they have every right to defend their religious beliefs and explain those beliefs to others who do not hold similar views.’

After the incident, the couple voluntarily attended St Anne’s Street police station in Liverpool, where they were interviewed under caution.

In July they were arrested and charged under Section 5 of the Public Order Act 1986 and Section 31 (1) (c) and (5) of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.

They appeared briefly at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Friday to hear the date of their trial before magistrates, and were granted bail on the condition that they did not approach any of the witnesses expected to appear.

The use by the police of the Public Order Act to arrest people over offensive comments has dismayed a number of lawyers, who say the legislation was passed to deal with law and order problems in the streets.

Neil Addison, a prominent criminal barrister and expert in religious law, said: ‘The purpose of the Public Order Act is to prevent disorder, but I’m very concerned that the police are using it merely because someone is offended.

‘It should be used where there is violence, yobbish behaviour or gratuitous personal abuse. It should never be used where there has been a personal conversation or debate with views firmly expressed.

‘If someone is in a discussion and they don’t like what they are hearing, they can walk away.’

He added that the police had a legal duty under the Human Rights Act to defend free speech ‘and I think they are forgetting that’.

A number of Church leaders in Liverpool have written to Keir Starmer, the Director of Public Prosecutions, voicing their concerns and pressing for the case to be dropped.

Christian Institute spokesman Mike Judge said ‘important’ issues of religious liberty were at stake.

‘In recent years, we have backed several cases where Christians have suffered unfair treatment because of their faith,’ he said. ‘We have detected a worrying tendency for public bodies to misapply the law in a way that seems to sideline Christianity more than other faiths.’

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: ‘It would be inappropriate to comment as this is an ongoing case.’

Norwich pub bans English Defence League from meeting as EDL plans city march – News – Norwich Evening News

Posted: June 21, 2012 in News Feed

Marlpit pub on Hellesdon Road, Norwich. The pub's owners have banned the EDL from meeting.

Meetings of the controversial English Defence League have been banned at a Norwich pub after a string of complaints.

About 45 members of the group, which is associated with violent demonstrations, have met at the Marlpit pub in Hellesdon Road. No trouble was reported and another meeting was booked for last weekend. But after complaints about the meetings from an anti-EDL group, the pub’s owners, Enterprise Inns, banned the EDL and the meeting was cancelled.

A spokesman for Enterprise said the licensee had been “reminded of their obligations”. She said: “We have spoken to the publican, who we understand has instructed pub staff to ensure no further meetings of the English Defence League are hosted at the Marlpit pub.”

It it understood the pub agreed to let the EDL hold the first meeting, but after receiving emails complaining, Enterprise Inns urged the landlady to not allow any more meetings.

Green Party councillor for Wensum ward, Lucy Galvin, said she was concerned by the EDL activity in the area.

She said: “Norwich has a long and proud tradition, stretching back centuries, of welcoming people of many faiths.

“The Marlpit pub is a friendly local where people get along well. There’s no room here for groups which seek to set people against each other and cause trouble.”

The EDL, which has an East Anglian division, has attracted controversy since forming in Luton in 2009.

On its website the right-wing group says it protests “peacefully”, but its marches are often marred by violence and arrests, along with counter-protests by anti-fascist groups and trade unions.

The Norwich division of the EDL, which has 75 members on its Facebook page on the internet, is also planning a march through Norwich on October 20.

A spokeswoman for Norfolk police said: “Norfolk Constabulary is aware of content posted online about a planned event, but we have not been formally approached about this matter.”

On its website, the EDL lists the banning of Reverend Alan Clifford of the Norwich Reform Church from using a market stall on Hay Hill as one of the reasons its planned march.

The church was banned from using the stall by Norwich City Council after a complaint it was publishing “hate-motivated” leaflets.

A city council spokesman said: “We have been made aware of this planned event. This is a matter for the police with whom we will be liaising closely in relation to any issues it may present.”

No one from the Norwich branch of the EDL could be reached for comment yesterday.

#Brighton today – Forget the nonsense you will read on twitter heres what really happened #edl #casuals

2 06 2012

After a top night out in Hove on friday, we headed into Brighton early doors around ten. Some Essex girls had been on the ground in Brighton since 8am and reported some unwashed anarchist scum on the beach in sleeping bags but apart from that it was all quiet.

As the day went on the majority of us refused to go in pubs, knowing full well that should we group up in a pub we were likely to be kettled in there, so we stayed mobile in small groups and walked around the seafront and pier. Its fair to say we did not see a Commie all day. Our girls mingled with the Ukuncut demo and at very tops there was 100 there.

Commies had been saying on their blog that we were in Brighton to attack the UKuncut demo but thats just a fantasy they had. They think if they twitter something it automatically becomes true. We never had any intention of attacking anyone. We stayed mobile and out of pubs and its hard to estimate the numbers but I would put them at between 120 and 140 as everywhere we went we saw small groups of ours. Bouncers kept asking “are you EDL” and ours would deny it as no badges or colours were on show. Police stopped us several times and we denied we were EDL and sometimes they searched us and sometimes they said “ok”. We heard many people saying “ive heard EDL are in town” as we sat next to them, inconspicuous and unseen.

The little bumder who writes the pile of tosh called EDL news wrote some silly article where he claimed, (while using a wrong pic of Joe) that it was going to rain all day. Did it F and the weather was amazing. We wandered around the beach and promenade in small groups always close enough that if we were attacked we’d be ok.

Having decided that the threats to “run us out of town” and “smash us” were just internet bullcrap, and the massive Commie presence was just a daydream, at around 3pm a few groups, having a long way to travel home, and happy that we had made our point that we will not be terrorised off ENGLISH streets by Communists and Anarchists, a lot of the  small groups started to make their way home.

This was our first encounter with the unwashed. As we walked up a sidestreet we were subjected to a small group of tramps shouting “nazi” at us while hiding behind the police. Scary. Then a group of ten Birmingham lads walked round a corner into a mob of about 100 Anarchist types who attacked and some punches were exchanged before police intervened. None of the brum lot were injured and the next hour or so saw small scuffles in a number of places as these tramps encountered small groups of our people.

Apparantly a UAF march was diverted away from the area by police as they had no control over small roaming groups of ours who kept running into small groups of hysterical commies intent on violence. Police started arresting people and the more clued up amongst our groups decided this caper was pointless and would ultimately lead to mass arrests of us so started bailing out either to side street pubs or their cars. Ten people were arrested during these scuffles, mostly ours as several Anarchists were knocked out. A lot of ours then went to the police station to make sure those arrested were ok.

The 30 who were left at Belushis were rounded up and marched to the station by police. Commies on twitter are claiming this 30 is all that was there, but the ones on the ground know the score, we were all around in small units, some are staying tonight but most are now gone.

We proved our point. Where were the 600 plus who attacked the MFE march of families? They didnt turn out today as they knew they would have opposition today, who werent gonna be kettled and an easy target so they stayed away. Next MFE march we will have 1000 on it and then they wont dare attack it as they are cowards.

We came, we saw we made our point. They can twitter all the shit they want, we showed them for what they are, idiots.

Well done all those who made the trip, from among other places Hull, Brum, Leicester, Cardiff, Manchester, Anglians, Kent, London, Essex, Nottingham, Newcastle, Bournemouth, Weymouth, Southend, Wolves, Berkshire, Bristol, Swindon and the local lads for their hospitality. I know some people had genuine reasons not to turn up, but some people said they were going, didnt say they werent and didnt turn up. They should be ashamed and next time they say anything it will be treated as the shit it is.

Job done.

Update – Commies back up a lot of what I say (in their usual bullshit style)

FASCISTS HUMILIATED IN BRIGHTON – AGAIN!

Posted by Matthaus Noir on June 2, 2012 · Leave a Comment

Casuals United, the football hooligan wing of the EDL, made complete tits of themselves in Brighton today (2nd). In response to their humiliation at March for England the fash thought it would be a good idea to come back in even smaller numbers to have a go at the “rabid hordes of commie UAF gays” that passes for the population of Brighton.

Far right websites, blogs and Facebook pages are already attempting to claim that antifa either a) didn’t turn up, b) ran away, and/or c) attacked patriots unprovoked. In reality the knuckle draggers managed to skulk about in a few pubs (including Belushis, The Saint James & The Amsterdam) while around 100 antifascists stewarded the UK Uncut demo and Palestine Solidarity stall near Churchill Sq. Once the stall had packed up around 3pm the antifascists mobbed up and headed towards Old Steine to confront the racists.

Police halted the majority of the march halfway down North St, meaning only around 30 made it to the bottom of St James Street, where small groups of fash were skulking around making homophobic remarks. A spirited fistfight broke out, though the police waded in before a decisive outcome was reached.

The cops then rounded up most of the EDL and marched them to the train station, with antifascists haranguing them all the way. Many of them then left town with a few others heading back into town to find a pub to defend from Sharia Law.

Antifascists then regrouped for a well earned pint, while others headed to Hollingbury police station to pick up arrested comrades. So far at least 5 antifascists and 5 fascists have been nicked today.

A more complete & concise roundup of the day’s events will be posted in the near future.

And to the Commie who questioned why we denied we were EDL to police and bouncers. Why do you think you thick twat?

FURTHER UPDATE Police estimate our numbers at 100

Positive policing prevents major disorder in Brighton and Hove

.

02 June 2012

A positive policing presence in Brighton and Hove today (Saturday 2 June) ensured it was largely business as usual for residents, traders and visitors, as both nationalists and UK Uncut supporters gathered in the city.

Superintendent Steve Whitton said: “We took the decision to have a visible and reassuring presence in the city today. Early engagement, explaining our intentions to facilitate peacefulactivity and making arrests for any criminality, prevented an escalation of tension between the groups and only a few minor incidents of disorder took place.

“I would like to thank local people, businesses and visitors for their patience on the few occasions when it was necessary to close roads or divert traffic. We were able keep these to a minimum.”

Police estimate around 100 nationalists and 100 UK Uncut supporters were in the city. Supporters of UK Uncut gathered at the Clock Tower just after noon and made their way to Churchill Square for a peaceful gathering.

After the planned event, a spontaneous anti-facist march took place in North Street involving some people who had been part of the UK Uncut group and others. Around 3pm this march was diverted away from nationalist supporters by police to avoid likely conflict.

Later in the afternoon, there were minor confrontations between opposing factions on the seafront and in the St James’s Street area but these were quickly dealt with by police.

A group of around 30 nationalists who had been confrontational during the afternoon were escorted to Brighton railway station around 6pm and placed on trains out of the city.

At 7pm policing of the city returned to the local policing team, with some additional officers to respond to any isolated incidents of disorder overnight and to support the Fatboy Slim event at the Amex Statium.

total 18 people were arrested during the day. Three were cautioned and released:

  • A 47-year-old man from Enfield, Middlesex, was cautioned for possession of cocaine and released.
  • A 32-year-old man from Portslade was cautioned for possession of cannabis and cannabis resin and released.
  • A 37-year-old man from Sittingbourne, Kent, was cautioned for possession of cocaine and released.

The remainder are in custody while investigations continue and have been, or will be, interviewed:

  • A 26-year-old man from Cambridge for using offensive language.
  • A 44-year-old man from Brighton for discharging a firework in a public place.
  • A 45-year-old man from Brighton for breach of the peace.
  • A 49-year-old man from Shoreham for actual bodily harm.
  • A 43-year-old man from Hull for being drunk and disorderly.
  • A 49-year-old man from Worthing for using offensive language.
  • A 50-year-old man from Herne Bay, Kent for committing battery.
  • A 45-year-old man from Bletchley, Milton Keynes for breaching a notice served under Section 27 of the Violent Crime Reduction Act.
  • A 51-year-old man from Hull for criminal damage, assaulting a police officer and breaching a notice served under Section 27 of the Violent Crime Reduction Act.
  • A 53-year-old woman from Brighton for assaulting a police officer.
  • A 27-year-old man from Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire for causing distress to public.
A 30-year-old man from Brighton for assault.
  • A 27-year-old man from Brighton for using offensive language.
  • A 50-year-old man from Bournemouth for using racial language while chanting.
  • A 37-year-old man from Brighton for possession of heroin.

A note regarding buying from #Muslim businesses #edl #uaf #islam

27 05 2012

Im told that yesterday in Redditch all the pubs were closed but a Muslim owned shop was open and certain people went in there buying booze. If this is true then those people should be ashamed of themselves. Any money you spend on Muslim owned businesses is potentially funding the Taliban and allowing them to purchase equipment and arms to kill and maim our lads if Afghanistan. Its not rocket salad people, if you arent sure if a business is Muslim owned just dont use it. Dont get in their taxis, dont buy takeaways from them and dont use their shops. Certain groups are round the mosques every week collecting for “freedom fighters” in Afghanistan, do not give them your money.

Second hate cleric is allowed to stay – and he’s so

dangerous he was banned from AS-level chemistry

By ANDY WHELAN

PUBLISHED: 23:28, 21 April 2012 | UPDATED: 02:17, 22 April 2012

An Iraqi Muslim cleric suspected of being involved with Al Qaeda and radicalising young Britons has used the Human Rights Act to continue to live in the UK – despite Government efforts to deport him.

Taha Muhammad is regarded as one of Britain’s most dangerous security threats. He was even banned from studying AS-level chemistry because of fears he would use the knowledge to commit terrorist acts.

The decision to let him stay is another setback for Home Secretary Theresa May, already under pressure after attempts to deport Abu Qatada to Jordan descended into chaos.

Staying: Attempts to deport Abu Qatada descended into chaosStaying: Attempts to deport Abu Qatada descended into chaos

The Government is so concerned about Muhammad, 35, that for several years he was placed under round-the-clock surveillance, given a curfew and banned from preaching.

But Muhammad says he cannot be deported to Iraq because he could be detained and tortured there.

He argues sending him back would be a breach of Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

Judges at an immigration tribunal allowed him to stay even though the Home Office said they believed he:

  • Had links to several terrorist groups including Al Qaeda.
  • ‘Took part in both terrorist training and activities’ and had ‘considerable jihadi pedigree’.
  • Maintained contacts with Islamist extremists in Britain and abroad.
  • Provided support for the jihadist insurgency in Iraq.
  • Expressed extremist views.

Muhammad, who is understood to be living with his partner and three children in Birmingham, has now changed his name. An Iraqi Kurd, he managed to overturn a control order in 2010 and immigration judges said because of that, they had to conclude the allegations made by the Home Office were without foundation.

Muhammad also vowed to sue the Government over his treatment and is now poised to win a large compensation payout.

Setback: Theresa May is already under pressure over her failure to deport Abu QatadaSetback: Home Secretary Theresa May is already under pressure after her failure to deport Abu Qatada

But Charlie Elphicke, Conservative MP for Dover and Deal, said: ‘This is yet another example of why we need a British Bill of Rights. How the European Convention has been applied doesn’t work for Britain’s policies on border security and national security.

‘It’s a real issue for me because my constituents complain that the European Convention and Human Rights Act is a villains’ and terrorists’ charter and the position is simply unacceptable and needs to be resolved.’

Muhammad arrived in Britain in 2002 and applied for asylum after claiming Saddam Hussein’s Ba’ath Party had accused him of being a member of the opposing Muslim Brotherhood, so had detained and tortured him.

The Home Office refused his application for asylum but he was granted exceptional leave to remain until March 2006.

While living as an imam and leading prayers at a mosque, he become one of MI5’s top terror suspects and in May 2006 was put under a control order.

The Government was so concerned about Muhammad that it made him the subject of a list of restrictions running to 15 pages.

Muhammad was given a curfew, limited to where he could go and banned from meeting a list of named individuals. He was also barred from attending his local mosque and leading prayers.

The Government also put a stop to his plans to study chemistry and human biology because it was thought he would use the knowledge gained to engage in terrorism.

Complain: MP Charlie Elphicke says Britain needs a Bill of Rights to protect its bordersComplain: MP Charlie Elphicke says Britain needs a Bill of Rights to protect its borders

Muhammad argues that he would be at renewed risk of detention and torture if he returned to Iraq because the authorities there would treat him as somebody linked to insurgency.

His wife, Amin Bayan Star, 22, and their children are also allowed to remain here after immigration judges concluded their removal would breach their rights to a private and family life under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

In a statement released through his solicitor, Muhammad said: ‘I have never done anything unlawful and I have been living a nightmare during the time I was subjected to the control order which was like living in a prison without bars.

‘Once the control order ended I believed my ordeal was at an end but the Home Office refused both my and my partners application for indefinite leave to remain and this threw my life and that of my family into turmoil and uncertainty again.

‘I hope and pray that the Home Office will leave me and my family alone.’

Control orders were introduced in March 2005 as a means of holding terror suspects who had not been charged or tried and where the evidence was largely sensitive and derived from intelligence sources.

In January of last year, following pressure from civil liberties campaigners, control orders were replaced with Terrorism Prevention and Investigation Measures, known as T-Pims, which have fewer controls but greater surveillance.

A Home Office spokesman said: ‘We take all necessary steps to protect the public from individuals we believe pose a threat and remove them from the UK.

‘But removal can be a challenging process and we have to operate within the law.’

Woman abused and raped by two men in Stockport

Efits released by policeGreater Manchester Police has released e-fits of the men in an attempt to trace them

A 27-year-old woman was attacked by two men and raped by one of them in her Stockport home.

The woman was approached by the men in a car as she walked on Edgeley Road, next to Alexander Park, in the early hours of 14 April.

She invited them back to her house, but half an hour later asked them to leave. The men then became verbally abusive and one of them raped her.

Both men then got back in their black Punto car and drove off.

Greater Manchester Police said the woman went through a “horrific ordeal”.

The force has released e-fits of the men in an attempt to trace them.

Both men are described as Asian with light skin.

One was about 5ft 8in (1.7m) and slim, in his late 20s with black hair.

He spoke with a strong Manchester accent and wore a black Nike tracksuit, black trainers with silver lines and had strongly defined eyebrows.

He was driving the car and was referred to as “Mani”.

The other man had a large build, was about 5ft 6in (1.6m) and was slightly younger. He wore a black T-shirt and baggy blue jeans with black work boots.

Det Sgt Jay Beeken said: “This was a horrific ordeal that the victim has been put through.

“The men were in her home and were asked to leave and then events took a much more sinister turn.

“She was verbally abused, physically assaulted and then raped by one of the men before they both left in their car.

“She has been supported by officers and has managed to give us a very detailed description of both men, enabling us to produce good quality e-fits.

“I now want people to take a good look at the images and let us know if you recognise them.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.

Brighton police investigate March for England complaints

Brighton police investigate March for England complaintsBrighton police investigate March for England complaints

Police are investigating complaints of heavy-handedness at Sunday’s March for England protest.

Caroline Lucas, the Green MP for Brighton Pavilion, is understood to have referred to Sussex Police her concerns about footage from the March For England counter-protest in Queen’s Road, Brighton.

video posted on internet site YouTube showed a line of officers, and some on horseback, hitting unarmed protesters with batons to force them down the road.

But police have described the tactics as “professional and proportionate” and said officers were themselves facing violence.

Hecklers Anti-fascist counter-demonstrators lined the road on Sunday lunchtime to heckle the nationalist marchers, whom they accuse of far-right extremism.

The march, strung out along the road, was subjected to missiles including plates of food and drinks cans.

A ten-year-old girl taking part in the march was hit on the head but continued to take part.

The parade’s progress was repeatedly halted by demonstrators blocking the road.

Officers used batons and pepper-spray to clear them from its path.

Police eventually decided not to help the march pass the Clock Tower but to escort it into Church Street through Victoria Gardens. More clashes followed in North Laine

Former city councillor Jean Calder wrote to The Argus yesterday condemning the use of pepper spray on the counter-demonstrators.

She said: “Police are highly trained and well paid professionals.

“It is their job to uphold the law and deal with provocation without losing their temper.

“Other public servants, such as nurses and social workers have at times to deal with insults and physical abuse.

“Most do not resort to violence and neither should police.

“They should also be able to tell the difference between protesters who are law abiding and those who are not.”

Sussex Police confirmed it had received a complaint about the use of batons based on the YouTube clip, which has been circulated on social media website |Twitter.

Public safety Superintendent Steve Whitton said: “Our priority throughout the event was public safety and we acted to protect the march, the officers themselves and other members of the public.

“The brief and selective footage shows police officers acting in a professional and proportionate way when faced with hostile groups intent on stopping and attacking the march and the police officers.

“It has to be seen in the context of a complex four-hour operation in which police were regularly faced with aggressive and violent behaviour from a minority of the protesters, some of it even more violent than that shown in those brief clips.”

Pakistani students raped woman, 20, after she fell

  • Pair told victim they would call her a taxi after she missed her stop, then lured her down an alleyway

Two ‘despicable’ sex predators who raped a woman after she fell asleep on a night bus have been jailed for a total of 18-and-a-half years.

Pakistani students Rizwan Ahmad, 24, and Hassan Siddique, 19, targeted the 20-year-old as she made her way home from a night out in central London.

Snaresbrook Crown Court heard how Siddique got off the number 55 bus while Ahmad began chatting to the woman when she realised she had missed her stop.

Ahmad persuaded her to get off at the next stop and said he would call her a taxi. He then phoned Siddique, a student at the London College of Business Management and Information Technology, to summon him to the scene.

The two men lured their victim down a secluded alleyway off Leabridge Road in Leyton, east London, and took turns to rape her in the early hours of June 4 last year.

During their trial Ahmad and Siddique insisted their victim had encouraged them, but the jury found both defendants guilty of rape and attempted rape.

Judge Tudor Owen said he believed the pair should be kicked out of Britain once they have served their jail terms, adding: ‘The sooner you are deported from this country, the better.’

In an impact statement the victim said the attack will ‘stay with her for the rest of her life’.

But she is determined to ensure her ordeal does not dictate her future.

Sentencing, Judge Owen told the two rapists: ‘What you did was despicable. Your story was simply ludicrous.

‘You claimed she instigated the whole thing, that it was she who wanted to engage in sexual activity with you.

‘Unsurprisingly, the jury rejected your account.

‘Women travelling alone at night are entitled not to be accosted in the way you two did.

‘She had a lot to drink but that does not mean she should have been treated in the way she was.

‘She was an easy target because she was so drunk.

‘She is now frightened of travelling alone at night, this has damaged her life.’

Jailing Ahmad for 10 years, and Siddique for eight-and-a-half years, Judge Owen added: ‘If it is necessary I will recommend most strongly that you are deported at the conclusion of your sentence.’

Ahmad, of Spruce Hills Road, Walthamstow, east London, and Siddique, of Gainsford Road, also in Walthamstow, denied rape and attempted rape.

Judge Owen commended investigating officer Detective Constable Jonathan Concanon for his part in bringing the rapists to justice.

The detective, of the Metropolitan Police’s specialist sex crime unit Sapphire, said: ‘Ahmad and Siddique demonstrated they are predatory offenders. They lulled the victim into a false sense of security before attacking her.

‘The victim showed immense bravery in coming forward and reporting this horrendous attack. I hope knowing her attackers are now behind bars will go some way towards allowing her to come to terms with what happened and to go on to have as fulfilling a future as possible.’

UK Border Agency page to grass on illegal immigrants

14 04 2012

Was looking for a number to grass up some illegal workers in my local takeaway and AMAZINGLY there is no dedicated reporting line on the UKBA site, just this online form. They advise people to call crimestoppers but surely this is important enough that they have their own number?Anyway, use blue link below to report your suspicions. Especially where you see large numbers of foreigners standing waiting to be picked up in the mornings as we all do. Get number plates and vehicle details of those picking them up and get grassing. These are the cash in hand jobs illegals go for. The Chief of the MET once said if he removed the one million illegals he suspected were in London it would “close down the restaurant trade overnight”, SHAME.

Louise Mensch was in the USA when the email was sent

A Conservative MP was sent a threatening email telling her she would have to choose which one of her children would die, a court has heard.

Mother-of-three Louise Mensch, who is MP for Corby in Northamptonshire, was told she faced a “Sophie’s Choice” – a reference to a novel and later film in which heroine Sophie has to choose between the life of her son or daughter at a Nazi concentration camp.

The sinister email was purportedly sent from the online hacking group Anonymous, Gloucester Magistrates’ Court heard.

However, police later arrested and charged Frank Zimmerman – a 60-year-old agoraphobic living in a run-down house in Gloucester.

Zimmerman, of Spinney Road, Barnwood, Gloucester, was accused of an offence of sending by public communication network an offensive, indecent, obscene, menacing message or matter on 22 August last year.

The court heard that Zimmerman had failed to attend any court appearance to answer the single charge he faced or give proper instructions to his solicitor – blaming his agoraphobia and depression.

Defence solicitor Charles Cronin told District Judge Martin Brown that he had spoken to Zimmerman by telephone and that he would not be attending court and was instead going back to bed.

In the defendant’s absence, Judge Brown decided to proceed without him and held a hearing to determine whether Zimmerman had committed the offence.

Prosecutor Gaon Hart told the court that that Zimmerman had sent the email to Mrs Mensch after she had spoken out publicly during last summer’s riots calling for the police to be able to temporarily close down social network sites, such as Twitter and Facebook, if necessary.

Zimmerman originally made contact with the chick lit author-turned-MP on Twitter using the pseudonym Tim Cavendish.

He claimed he had information about Piers Morgan and the telephone hacking scandal engulfing the News of the World.

Mrs Mensch sent him her personal gmail email address. It was to that account that Zimmerman sent the threatening message, the court heard.

The email, which was timed at 10.47pm on 22 August, was sent from an account with the address of lulz.sec@hotmail.com – a reference to the internet hacking group Lulz Security.

The email said:

“Subject: You have been HACKED :D

Louise Mensch, nee Bagshawe, the slut of Twitter.

We are Anonymous and we don’t like rude c**** like you and your nouveau riche husband Peter Mensch. You have been hacked!

We are inside your computer and all your phones, everywhere… and inside your homes.

So get off Twitter.

We see you are still on Twitter. We have sent a camera crew to photograph you and your kids and will post it all over the net, including Twitter. C***face.

You now have a Sophie’s Choice. Which kid is to go? One will, count on it c***.

Have a nice day

From all of us at MIT 617-253-1000″

Mr Hart said the reference to MIT followed by a US telephone number was to give the impression the email had been sent from hackers linked to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Mrs Mensch was in New York with her husband recovering from an operation while her three children were with their father, her ex-husband, in the UK.

The MP took the threats seriously and immediately contacted the police, the court was told.

In a victim impact statement read to the court, Mrs Mensch spoke of her terror at receiving the threat.

“I was terrified on behalf of my children. I was in New York with my husband recovering from an operation and my children were with their father and to receive a threat like this made me very upset,” she said.

“I was 3,000 miles away from my children and I was worried for their safety and the safety of my ex-husband. I felt powerless to do anything.”

Mrs Mensch said that after receiving the email she was sent a Twitter message from someone called “Robert Redford”.

“He made reference to the contents of the email and that one of my children would die and it made me believe he was responsible,” she said.

Zimmerman first became a suspect for threatening Mrs Mensch when Independent newspaper columnist Terence Blacker, who was a former neighbour of the defendant in London, received a similar email.

A forensic examination linked the sender of the email to the IP and router addresses of Zimmerman’s Virgin Media account at his home in Gloucester.

Police visited his house and he volunteered the password for his computer, the court was told.

Examination of that computer found Zimmerman had a series of tabs on his internet browser open at the Twitter accounts of Tim Cavendish, Mrs Mensch, Piers Morgan and Lord Prescott.

He also had pages open on BBC News Online of reports of Mrs Mensch receiving threats to her children by email, an article on the News of the World hacking scandal and a story on the hacking group Anonymous.

There was also a page open for a Skype account in the name of Tim Cavendish.

Detective Constable Iqbal Azad told the court: “We were able to trace the internet service provider and it was an internet broadband account held by Mr Frank Zimmerman at his home address.”

Judge Brown said he had to rule on whether the email sent to Mrs Mensch was malicious, and if it was, had Zimmerman sent it.

He said he was satisfied the email was malicious and added: “The court needs to be satisfied that this email can be linked to the defendant.

“The very helpful evidence of Det Con Azad has been clear that there is a direct link to the IP address that has been identified as coming from Mr Zimmerman’s computer.

“It does not appear in question in my mind that the prosecution have established a direct link by the email received by Louise Mensch and the computer that was found at the defendant’s address.

“I can be satisfied that this was a malicious communication sent by Mr Zimmerman from his computer at his home address.

“I can therefore be satisfied that he committed the act in question and the offence has been committed.”

The judge said he had decided not to issue an immediate warrant for Zimmerman’s arrest without bail and was releasing him on unconditional bail until he is sentenced on 8 May.

He told Mr Hart: “If he does not attend on that date, and unless circumstances change, he must understand I am being left with very little alternative but to issue a warrant.”

Following the judge’s ruling, Mr Hart said the Crown would be applying at the sentencing hearing for a restraining order against Zimmerman, preventing him contacting “other high-profile individuals”.

Details of the proposed order were not revealed in court.

Speaking afterwards, Mr Hart, who is part of the Crown Prosecution Service’s special crime and counter-terrorism division, said: “The right to freedom of speech is accompanied by laws that protect individuals from those who seek to abuse that freedom and use the anonymity of email or Twitter accounts to hide from the fear that they cause.

“Zimmerman attempted to use pseudonyms and other methods to wage a campaign of fear against a high-profile person, thinking that he was safe from detection.

“He was wrong. This should be a salutary lesson for anyone who considers that they are above the law because they threaten others through a computer rather than on the streets.

“I would also like to thank officers from the Metropolitan Police Central e-crime unit for their hard work.”

Cops say EDL ‘not linked’ to attacks

FIREBOMBED: A burnt out car following one of the attacksFIREBOMBED: A burnt out car following one of the attacks

Published on Sunday 3 April 2011 09:10

FOUR cars have been destroyed by arsonists in attacks outside Luton homes over the past week.

The spate of firebombings began in the early hours of Sunday morning (March 27) in Bushmead, when a car was set alight outside a house in Chalkdown.

Another car was then set on fire in Brompton Gardens in Marsh Farm in the early hours of Monday morning, followed by incidents in Carlton Close, Biscot, and Newark Road, Bury Park, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Houses have also been spray painted with graffiti and windows broken in a string of 21 criminal damage incidents which stretch back seven weeks, a spokesman for Bedfordshire Police said.

Several properties have had the letters ‘EDL’ spray painted on them, but the English Defence League says it is in no way connected with the incidents.

Two men were arrested in connection with the Brompton Gardens incident and both have been bailed without charge while investigations continue.

The Beds Police spokesman said forensic examinations and house-to-house enquires had taken place after each incident.

The officer in charge, Det Insp Steve Ashdown, said: “We believe these incidents are related. I would reassure our communities that everything is being done to stop this happening with a dedicated team of officers working to identify the offenders and bring them to justice.

“The two people arrested have been investigated and there is no evidence linking them to the English Defence League.”

A dedicated hotline number –             01582 394077       – has been set up for anyone with information about the attacks to pass on what they know in confidence. Alternatively, people can contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on             0800 555111      .

Det Insp Ashdown continued: “Anyone with information about those responsible for these crimes can contact Bedfordshire Police and be assured that whatever information they give will be used in strict confidence. We would also ask members of our communities who are concerned about these incidents to speak to the police and not take matters into their own hands.”

London Divisions letter to the PM #edl

7 04 2012

Dear Prime Minister

We are British Citizens concerned about the security of our country following the release on bail of the Jordanian citizen known as Abu Qatada or alternatively as Omar Mahmoud Mohammed Othman.

We would remind you that your own ministers have described him as “a dangerous man who we believe poses a real threat to our security and who has not changed in his views or attitude to the UK” . We submit that your duty to protect the citizens and residents of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland out-weighs any concern about Abu Qatada’s trial in his homeland.

To allow him to be at large on British soil could be construed as ‘succouring the Queens enemies’ which remains one of the definitions of treason.

We therefore call upon you and your Home Secretary the Rt Hon Theresa May MP to order the deportation Abu Qatada aka Omar Mahmoud Mohammed Othman to his native country of Jordan with immediate effect.

Feel free to email and or post to the Home Office or Number 10

Well done all the people who have either demo’d on the streets or taken part in phone and email/letter campaigns regarding halal meat being imposed on an unsuspecting public. The main problem with halal meat is that if big companies like KFC. Dominos, Subway etc are doing behind the scenes deals with halal companies (many of which import meat from Pakistan and Saudi) then British farming will be served another death blow, and those farmers wont even know why. No to halal. Its cruel but more importantly it is helping to kill our farming industry. Our demos are paying off. NFSE

Now they’ll have to tell us if we’re eating halal: Ministers prepare to change law

Ministers are preparing to change the law to ensure that meat slaughtered in accordance with strict Islamic law cannot be sold to unwitting members of the public.
The Government is drawing up plans to prevent schools, hospitals, pubs and famous sporting venues from serving halal meat secretly to customers.
The move will be welcomed by animal rights campaigners, who argue that the traditional Islamic way of preparing meat – which involves killing animals by drawing a knife across their throats without stunning them first – is cruel and causes unnecessary pain.

‘Cruel’: Under the halal method, animals are slaughtered by being slashed across the neck without being stunned
It follows a Mail on Sunday investigation in September 2010 which discovered that beef, chicken and lamb had been sold to fans at Wembley without them knowing it had been prepared in accordance with sharia law.
Cheltenham College was found to be one of several public schools serving halal chicken to pupils without informing them, while Whitbread, Britain’s biggest hotel and restaurant group, admitted that more than three- quarters of its poultry was halal. MPs were furious to discover halal meat had even been sold in House of Commons canteens without them knowing.

Now Environment Minister Lord Taylor of Holbeach has said that if the European Union fails to agree on a new food labelling scheme, the UK will take action. The European Commission is considering the matter as part of its animal welfare strategy and is expected to report by the summer.
Lord Taylor told peers: ‘The Government welcomes this approach as it will allow consumer information to be considered alongside measures to minimise the suffering of animals slaughtered without stunning. In the meantime we are considering how we can use domestic legislation.’

Investigation: The Mail on Sunday’s report about halal meat sold at Wembley
Sharia law expressly forbids knocking out an animal with a bolt gun – the method normally used in British slaughterhouses. Instead, the animal must be sentient when its throat is cut, with the blood allowed to drip from the carcass while a religious phrase in praise of Allah is recited.
More than 40 million cattle, calves and sheep and more than 850 million poultry are slaughtered every year in Britain. The vast majority are stunned before slaughter. In 2003, Government advisory body the Farm Animal Welfare Council published a report declaring that the halal method of killing ‘would inevitably trigger a barrage of sensory information to the brain in a sensible (conscious) animal .  .  . such a massive injury would result in very significant pain and distress in the period before insensibility supervenes’.
Muslim leaders insist that animal welfare measures are observed during slaughter.

Not labelled: MPs were furious to discover halal meat had even been sold in House of Commons canteens without them knowing
Terry Sanderson, president of the National Secular Society, said: ‘This sounds like a very progressive move. We have been pushing the EU to act for some time. If the Government is going to take this step, it will help consumers to make an ethical choice.’
A Defra spokesman said: ‘We believe people should continue to be able to buy meat prepared in accordance with their religion, but that people should also be able to find out how a product was prepared when they are buying in shops or eating out.
‘We are keeping all policies under review, including our approach to labelling.’
