‘Hounslow slasher’: Sasha Masamba, 21, attacked two women with knives as they walked home at night

A man dubbed the ‘Hounslow slasher’ and described as a ‘every woman’s nightmare’ has today been given an 18-year sentence.

Sasha Masamba, 21, attacked two women with knives as they walked home at night, leaving them with permanent scars around their face and neck.

He was said to be particularly dangerous because there was no motive to the attacks which terrorised women in suburban streets in west London.

Masamba, of Hounslow, west London, pleaded guilty to two offences of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was jailed at the Old Bailey for 18 years – four of them to be served on licence.

The Recorder of London, Judge Brian Barker, said: ‘This is a most disturbing case.

‘Noticeably, there was no request for money or sexual intent. The deep concern is a lack of any rational explanation for these acts.

‘The victims could easily have died because the knife wounds were near arteries.’

The Old Bailey heard that, over 10 days in August last year, Masamba prowled the area around Hounslow station and on two occasions slashed women late at night.

Bobbie Cheema, QC, prosecuting, told the court: ‘This defendant is every woman’s nightmare – a man who arms himself with a knife and then prowls around late at night waiting for a lone female to attack.

She said the women were attacked from behind. In one case, Masamba had been prowling around for three hours looking for a victim.

The first attack was on university student Miss Zablocka, 19, who had only been in Britain for two weeks.

She was walking home from the station just before midnight after spending the evening with friends in the West End.

The man grabbed her throat and then said: ‘Sorry, I am only joking.’

She did not realise she had been cut but after he made off she felt dizzy and fell to her knees.

Miss Zablocka was taken to hospital and had seven stitches to a 3cm wound. She also had a continuous cut stretching round her neck.

‘I want to bite your ears off, pluck your eyes with chopsticks, cut your limbs with a breadknife and feed your insides to sever rats.’

On August 17, Masamba attacked waitress Miss Aurelio as she was heading home from work in central London. He approached her from behind and she saw a breadknife as he slashed her across the chin.

Miss Cheema said she put up a fierce fight during which Masamba tried to stab her twice in the stomach. The knife was later found in a nearby street and had DNA from attacker and victim.

She was said to be awaiting plastic surgery for a 5cm scar on her face.

Both women were said to have been traumatised by the attacks and are afraid of going out alone at night.

Miss Cheema said a couple of days later, Masamba posted threats on his Facebook page.

They said: ‘I want to bite your ears off, pluck your eyes with chopsticks, cut your limbs with a breadknife and feed your insides to sever rats.’

Masamba was said to have written to the judge saying he hated himself for what he had done.

He was arrested at Hounslow station by new recruit Pc Rebecca Skinner on August 21 after she recognised his CCTV image which had been released to the media.

His not-guilty pleas to the attempted murders of Kaja Zablocka, 19, on August 7 and Deserilyn Aurelio, 26, 10 days later were accepted.

DCI Amanda Hargreaves said outside court: ‘This lengthy sentence reflects the nature of the offences.

‘Masamba was caught before he potentially killed someone, which I believe was only a matter of time.’

Later, police released a statement from Miss Aurelio in which she said: ‘The night I was attacked it just felt like a small cut to my chin at first, but the next day I realised how serious it was and became more and more scared.

‘I have lost my confidence and avoid being outside alone at night.

‘I have an awful scar on my face, it is very visible on my chin, this is a constant reminder of the attack and how close I came to being killed.

‘I am still waiting for plastic surgery on the scar so I can then hopefully begin to look at myself as normal again.

‘I am still very self-conscious of the scar. People stare at it and often ask what happened. This always upsets me as it reminds me of that horrible night.’

1100hrs at Kings Cross Station , London, N1 9AP. We are being allowed to use three pubs. You will be met by stewards , and directed to the “refreshment areas”. Coaches will be directed to parking near the demo site. 
1200hrs there will be a briefing for all Stewards outside one of the pubs tbc 

1300hrs we will be escorted to Kings Cross Station to board trains to the March Point. Do not miss these trains , or you will miss the march and possibly the demo !! A steward will be in every pub , to make sure you leave in time to catch the trains. You may be required to buy a ticket..please make sure you have an extra £4.00 to do so.

After we exit the trains (about 1330hrs) , we will form up for a 15 minute march to the demo point. Bring your flags , and singing voices. A 14-YEAR-OLD girl was sexually assualted on a bus in Batley.

 

It happened at 11.20am on Friday July 27, as the victim was travelling on the 229 Arriva bus in West Park Road, Batley.

Police investigating the assault have now released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to.

He got on the bus at Leeds, buying a ticket to Huddersfield.

The man pictured, or any witnesses, are asked to contact PC Sarah Lambert on 01924 295301.

Woman held over racist bus rant

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of making racist comments after police examined footage of a woman on a bus.

The 34-year-old was arrested on Tuesday at an address in Hackney, east London, on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence, police said.

It comes after footage of a black woman in a distressed state proclaiming her African heritage and disparaging white people was uploaded to Youtube.

The Metropolitan Police said they were trying to determine when it was filmed.

A police spokesman said: “On Monday August 20 MPS officers began to assess footage of a woman that was brought to our attention.

“It shows a woman making comments on a bus. Officers are continuing to try and establish when and where the footage was taken.”

Police said the woman had been taken to an east London police station.

A cocaine addict mugged an eight-year-old girl for just £3.50 as she walked to the shop to buy sweets.

Naseer Laher, 31, was jailed for four years and three months after a court heard how he cornered Chelsea Dixon in an alleyway in Batley Carr, West Yorkshire.

A judge told him: ‘It doesn’t get much lower than that’ as he sentenced the criminal yesterday.

Chelsea had only a few coins with her, enough to buy sweets from the post office and send letters she had written to her brother Lewis,who was serving in Afghanistan.

Her purse had belonged to her beloved grandmother, who had died four weeks before she was attacked on March 15, Leeds Crown Court heard.

Laher, of Batley, approached her about 4.30pm and asked how much money she had, according to prosecutor Shamaila Quereshi.

A witness saw Laher run away after the attack and went to help the youngster, who was deeply distressed.

Laher was arrested and denied the offence, claiming he had been

At the time of the offence, Laher, who pleaded guilty to robbery at an earlier hearing, was already subject to a community order imposed after he burgled the home of one of his relatives.

Ms Quereshi said Chelsea’s purse has never been recovered and the little girl was crushed, because she had been very close to her grandmother.

She is now afraid to be on her own, the court heard, and is scared to return to the post office.

Chelsea’s mother, Amanda Dixon, described her daughter in a statement as being ’very brave’ in helping the police and identifying her attacker.

Judge Christopher Batty told Laher: ‘No doubt she was hugely proud of the fact that she had the purse of her grandmother, who had died only a month before.

He added: ‘She was easy prey to feed your addiction.’

After the hearing, Det Con Paul Greatorex, of Kirklees CID, said: ‘It is hard
to understand what would compel a grown man to rob a child for such a small amount of money.’

After the incident in March, Chelsea’s mother said: ‘She just came running home, she was a mess.

‘That night she wanted to sleep with me and she didn’t go to school the next day.’

Miss Dixon, said at the time that her daughter had been ‘distraught’ after the purse was snatched. ‘It is all the more painful because of the sentimental value attached to it,’ she added.

The police, CPS and Judges are DESPERATE to show their “anti racist” credentials, and will lock up any racist person that finds themselves at their mercy.

At the same time, the police, CPS and Judges also want to show how “not racist” they are by being leniant on any immigrants that appear before them. Lutfur Rahman, the extremist-linked mayor of Tower Hamlets, went round the local mosques yesterday, urging congregations to vote for his close ally Ken Livingstone. At the Brick Lane mosque, Lutfur apparently delivered a speech at the Friday prayer, saying that Ken was Muslims’ best hope – not a view shared by many of the Muslims I know.

A gentleman called Azad Ali has also been tweeting his support for Ken.Azad is the community affairs co-ordinator of the extremist Islamic Forum of Europe, which controls the East London Mosque and which isdedicated, in its own words, to changing the “very infrastructure of society, its institutions, its culture, its political order and its creed … from ignorance to Islam.” In Ken’s last term as mayor, the East London Mosque was paid £500,000 by Livingstone’s London Development Agency to help build the IFE a new headquarters. Ken’s officials furiously protested against the grant, saying there was “no case” for an LDA contribution, but were overruled. Azad is also Ken’s vice-chair at the Unite Against Fascism organisation, and was invited to speak at Ken’s Progressive London conference last year.

Azad has written on his IFE blog of his “love” for Anwar al-Awlaki, the al-Qaeda cleric. He used to attend talks by Al-Qaeda’s main representative in the UK, Abu Qatada. He has described al-Qaeda as a “myth” and said that the Mumbai terrorist attacks were not terrorism. On his IFE blog, he advocated the killing of British troops in Iraq (he sued a newspaper for reporting this, and lost.) Filmed by an undercover reporter for my Channel 4 Dispatches on the IFE, Azad said: “Democracy, if it means at the expense of not implementing the sharia, of course no-one agrees with that.” His response to this exposure was to threaten our undercover reporter.

In 2008 IFE and Azad repaid Ken’s favours by running a campaign called “Muslims for Ken” – which boasted that “we got out the vote” in its east London heartland. There were indeed astonishing, even unbelievable swings towards Ken in Tower Hamlets last time, no doubt aided by Muslims for Ken handing out leaflets at the mosques claiming Boris would ban the Koran.

There’s not so much overt activity of that kind in 2012 – Livingstone obviously hasn’t got the public purse to buy votes with any more. But stuff appears to be going on under the surface – and the postal-vote situation is still looking extremely promising for the Kenster.

Egyptian husbands will soon be legally allowed to have sex with their dead wives – for up to six hours after their death.

The controversial new law is part of a raft of measures being introduced by the Islamist-dominated parliament.

It will also see the minimum age of marriage lowered to 14 and the ridding of women’s rights of getting education and employment.

Egypt’s National Council for Women is campaigning against the changes, saying that ‘marginalising and undermining the status of women would negatively affect the country’s human development’.

Dr Mervat al-Talawi, head of the NCW, wrote to the Egyptian People’s Assembly Speaker Dr Saad al-Katatni addressing her concerns.

Egyptian journalist Amro Abdul Samea reported in the al-Ahram newspaper that Talawi complained about the legislations which are being introduced under ‘alleged religious interpretations’.

The subject of a husband having sex with his dead wife arose in May 2011 when Moroccan cleric Zamzami Abdul Bari said marriage remains valid even after death.

He also said that women have the right to have sex with her dead husband, alarabiya.net reported.

It seems the topic, which has sparked outrage, has now been picked up on by Egypt’s politicians.

TV anchor Jaber al-Qarmouty slammed the notion of letting a husband have sex with his wife after her death under the so-called ‘Farewell Intercourse’ draft law.

He said: ‘This is very serious. Could the panel that will draft the Egyptian constitution possibly discuss such issues? Did Abdul Samea see by his own eyes the text of the message sent by Talawi to Katatni?

‘This is unbelievable. It is a catastrophe to give the husband such a right! Has the Islamic trend reached that far? Is there really a draft law in this regard? Are there people thinking in this manner?’

Look how close the unwashed were to the patriots parade in this pic. This is a DELIBERATE public order fail. Like the old days of the EDL Manchester demo. Someone in Sussex police wanted disorder, maybe so they can justify a ban in future. Any police force worth its salt would keep counter protesters out of sight as its like a red rag to a bull. Its not rocket salad.

This type of fail can lead to a large demo and the associated cost as we will not be mugged off in this way and WILL exercise our democratic right to celebrate our English culture. Consideration is under way for a national EDL demo.

A police officer has been taken to hospital after suffering a head injury during a nationalist march in Brighton.

The March for England group held its fifth annual event, with counter protests by anti-fascist groups.

About 140 people took part in the march which was temporarily halted twice and re-routed to avoid the seafront.

Sussex Police said the route had been changed “following significant verbal aggression by both groups of demonstrators”.

Roads were closed in the area, and bus services disrupted. Three people were arrested for public order offences.

The officer was injured at about 14:20 BST after being hit by a bottle which had been thrown, police said.

The march was halted first in Queen’s Road and then in Church Street, where mounted officers were deployed to help with crowd control.

The protesters rallied at Victoria Gardens for speeches before moving northwards.

Police said there were reports of missiles being thrown as the march moved past Sydney Street.

The groups started to disperse at about 15:40 BST after the protesters had reached the railway station.

Speaking before the march, Matt Silva, from March for England, denied the group was far right.

“We’re just an English pressure group really,” he said.

However, Lou Kenton, from the Anti Fascist Coalition, said: “Every year they parade through Brighton and shout racist abuse at passers by.”

Arrests in internet race-hate investigation

Five men have been arrested on suspicion of publishing material to incite racial hatred.

Computer equipment and mobile phones are thought to have been seized by police during early morning raids in Tyneside, Birkenhead, Barnsley, County Durham and Holloway, north London.

Two other properties in Leeds and Knaresborough, North Yorkshire were also searched.

Counter-terrorism officers say they are questioning those being held.

Those arrested include a 46-year-old in County Durham, an 18-year-man in Birkenhead, Merseyside, a 21-year-old in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, and a 56-year-old Holloway, London.

A 43-year-old from North Tyneside has now been released on bail.

Previous reports suggested the men being held were involved in a splinter group of the English Defence League known as the North West Infidels.

Trial collapses after witnesses deported

THREE people charged after an inquiry into an alleged immigration scam have had their trial discontinued after 13 potential witnesses were deported.

 

The three people were charged following raids in September 2010 in Crawley and also at Clacket Lane services on the M25 in Surrey.

But the case against all three defendants collapsed on April 2 at Hove Crown Court after the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) decided there was no ‘realistic prospect’ of a conviction following the Judge ruling some evidence inadmissible.

More than 20 raids were carried out by police and the UK Border Agency (UKBA) at sites across Sussex, Surrey and Kent.

It was part of an eight month investigation into the suspected supply of illegal labour for an employment agency in Crawley.

One person was charged with assisting unlawful immigration, employing illegal immigrants and concealing criminal property and two others with assisting unlawful immigration.

The Judge in the trial, Judge Paul Tain criticised the UKBA for deporting the witnesses without considering the trial.

The UKBA said a thorough review was now underway.

A spokesman for the UK Border Agency said: “This operation successfully led to the arrest of 23 people who were working illegally in the UK.

“We worked with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) during the investigation to try and prosecute those we believed to be behind the illegal working.

“After the case was brought to court, the Judge ruled some of the evidence as inadmissible, which led to the CPS deciding that there was no longer a realistic prospect of a conviction and that the case should not proceed.

“Between April 2010 – March 2011, UK Border Agency successfully secured over 2,000 prosecutions targeting immigration crime so we were naturally disappointed with this judgement but we take on board what the judge has said and a thorough review is under way.”

The British police are slightly less of a disgrace than they were a couple of years ago. Back in the not too distant past there was little reporting of native British girls being drugged, groomed, raped and murdered by gangs of Muslim males in our towns and cities.

This wall of silence was erected in the interests of “community cohesion,” a modern verbal concept invented by our liberal elites who think it is better that the indigenous population remain unaware of the horrifying abuse carried out by British Muslims. This is understandable, because to be aware might make even the most fluffy headed of liberals question the benefits of mass Muslim migration into the liberal democracy that was once Great Britain.

That is one way of explaining their historical silence I suppose. The fact that Mohammed consummated his marriage to six year-old Aisha when she was only nine might also play a part in the whole sordid affair, along with the fact that Muslim males consider Muslim females to be second class citizens – let alone infidel females.

But now the liberal silence has been broken, we appear to suffering from an absolute epidemic of Muslim paedophilia and abuse. Dewsbury, Leeds, Blackburn, Blackpool, Derby, Rochdale, Birmingham etc etc all seem to have their very own Islamic gang-rape-of-under age-children-enclaves, with the recent additions of Oxford and Glasgow. The ongoing benefits of multiculturalism we are constantly being told to celebrate are certainly well represented geographically, it must be said.

If this was a situation where gangs of white males were raping young Muslim girls it would have been headline news a long time ago, but sadly the native British are now very much second class citizens within their own homeland. In these perverse multicultural times we live in, all cultures are equal except ours.

If the BBC and Germaine Greer are not too busy over the next few days, perhaps they might like to comment on this matter. As the eternal espousers of feminism, it would appear only right to do so. Whilst they are at it, perhaps they might also like to weigh in on the 17,000 cases of Muslim “Honour” violence cases reported by the Independent, along with a recent report stating  one in five Muslims thinks it permissible to inflict physical violence on women who dishonour their families. (It is one of those odd facets of multiculturalism that such dishonour could be incurred by dating a native Brit.)

But even though the British police have finally plucked up sufficient bravery to overcome the sheer awfulness of being called nasty playground names, and are now belatedly actually doing something to protect our children from Muslim rapists and paedophiles, it might be some time before British feminists and the BBC also garner such courage.

Left-wing ideology still thinks of Muslims as a minority to be protected in the face of relentless oppression by the native British. But quite how a lone thirteen year-old girl could oppress a gang of adult bearded males after being drugged, or rendered comatose via vodka, is one of those not altogether incidental questions the BBC feminists and Ms Greer should really be asking themselves.

And it is important that they do. We are already at the early stages of a tribal/religious civil war in Britain, courtesy of the immigration and appeasement policies of ALL the political traitor class. The Muslim rape of our children now appears to be a driving force in what over the coming years can only make civil war inevitable.

If you think this is an overreaction, please read the following paragraphs, taken from a recentIndependent article about white riots in Rochdale:

 ”We are innocent people loyal to the community,” proclaimed the posters adorning the windows of the Tasty Bites takeaway yesterday. If we are guilty, why the police have not arrested us? Why we are still working? Why our shop is still open?”

But on Monday, takeaways in the Heywood area of Rochdale were mentioned in media coverage of a child sex gang trial involving 11 Asian men at Liverpool Crown Court. Racial tensions have been simmering ever since and on Thursday night they erupted when a demonstration, apparently organised on social media, in protest at the allegations, degenerated into violence.

Up to 150 people – many of them children – took to the streets, some of them brandishing racist placards. During the evening the mob began pelting police with bricks and targeting takeaways on the main shopping parade before being dispersed by riot vans.

Taxi drivers were threatened and an Asian pizza delivery man had his vehicle attacked. A police officer suffered bruising and two people, including a 14-year-old boy, were arrested.

Although Mr Ahmed and his family have nothing to do with the trial or the alleged events which are said to have taken place prior to his purchase of the business, his livelihood has collapsed since Monday. “I have lost all my customers – not a word of a lie. We are suffering. Last night they were doing all sorts of stuff – shouting ‘get the rapist out’. ‘Paedophile’. Quite abusive words.

“The police were there but they were quite limited and they asked us to close the business. It will take me five to 10 years to build it back up again. We have had so many phone calls giving abuse – all kinds of threats; threatening to burn the shop down.”

Four people are employed at Tasty Bites and Mr Ahmed has mortgaged his family home in order to set his son-in-law Ammir Rafiq up in business. Each works seven days a week until at least 1am.

But not last night. Like the other Asian businesses in this predominantly white community, they were rolling down the shutters early as police called for calm and promised a “robust” approach to any further trouble.

Amid the rumours swirling around the town are fears that elements of the far-right might be preparing to exploit the tensions. There have already been calls to ban an English Defence League march due to take place in the nearby town of Hyde following an alleged attack on a white teenager by Asian youths earlier this month.

But no one knows what will happen in Heywood, which has hitherto escaped the kind of rioting which so badly scarred near-neighbours Oldham, Burnley and Bradford in recent years.

The sense of foreboding was palpable. At Eagle Cars 2000, where the drivers are predominantlyAsian, most went home early as trouble flared. “One driver told me they saw baseball bats and they were getting out of town. They are frightened as is everybody. The base staff were frightened, I was frightened,” said manager Katie Turner.

Darren Taylor, manager at Domino’s Pizza, said one of his drivers was surrounded. “They were banging and kicking on the car and calling him a paedo and a Paki,” he said.

Police, meanwhile, urged parents to be aware of where young people were over the coming days. Superintendent Chris Hankinson, from Greater Manchester Police said: “Those that seek to use what’s going on at the moment in Liverpool to further their racist agenda will be dealt with robustly.”

The disturbances were condemned by community leaders. Mohammed Shafiq, chief executive of the Manchester-based Ramadhan Foundation, said: “Mob rule or vigilantism is not the way we conduct ourselves in this country.” Colin Lambert, leader of Rochdale Council, said: “Let’s keep the cohesion together. This is about protecting families and children.”

These quisling policemen and council leaders are a little too late. Memo to Superintendent Hankinson, we are not trying to further our racist agenda, we are protesting about racism carried out against us. And Memo to council leader Lambert, there is no cohesion to keep together you half-wit, and you are way too late to have the sheer bare faced effrontery to talk about protecting families and children in Rochdale, having already betrayed the native British families and children within your manor through your politically correct silence.

Keith Vaz unhappy about the cost of policing “Free Speech” and what they can do to avoid further demos

MP Keith Vaz and Leicestershire Chief Constable Simon Cole are to meet Government minister Nick Herbert to discuss the cost of policing last weekend’s English Defence League march.

As previously reported by the Mercury, the Leicestershire force faces a bill of at least £800,000 for protests by the EDL and Unite Against Fascism last weekend.

The final bill could be even higher when planning and preparations in the run-up to the day itself are taken into account.

Leicester East MP Mr Vaz said it was “unfair” that the entire cost for the policing operation lay at the door of the county force, which has had to save millions of pounds from its budget because of Government spending cuts.

He raised the issue, along with his concern at the impact on frontline policing from budget cuts, with policing minister Mr Herbert during the Police Grants debate in the House of Commons.

Speaking after the debate, he said: “Leicestershire Constabulary, like others in the country, is facing serious cuts to its budget in light of the Government’s deficit reduction programme.

“It is highly unfair that the £800,000 bill for policing the march should have to be met by the Leicestershire police force.

“I am delighted that policing minister Nick Herbert has agreed to meet with me on this issue.”

Chief Constable Simon Cole has also accepted an invitation from Mr Vaz to meet him and the minister.

A police spokesman said: “The chief constable has been invited to meet with Mr Vaz and Mr Herbert to discuss the issues surrounding the cost of policing these kinds of protest marches and the implications for police resources.”

About 700 people took part in the EDL march on Saturday, February 4, while police said 200 joined the Leicester Unite Against Fascism’s counter protest on a separate route.

The chief constable put 2,200 officers on the streets on the day, with most of the operation costs coming from the need to bring in police from 16 other forces.

The Leicestershire force was praised for its handling of the potentially volatile affair and there were no arrests.

Although the police are entitled to a financial contribution from football clubs such as Leicester City for policing home games, that is not currently the case with protests involving loosely-affiliated groups such as the EDL.

A Home Office spokesperson said: “Ministers regularly conduct private meetings with MPs to discuss any issues or concerns.”

Writing in a First Person column in the Mercury, earlier this week, Mr Cole said: “It is not for the police to set the laws, but I do think that there needs to be some reflection about the costs and expectations placed on police forces as we are currently paying, on your behalf, the price of free speech.

“That price is significant, and it is paid with the money paid in through taxes by us all.”

The cost of the Leicester demo is small change compared to the amount of money Britain wastes giving foreign aid to countries like India who have said they dont want the money, the £60,000 a day the NHS waste on interpreters for foreigners who cant be bothered to learn English and the cost of crime committed against our people by foreign criminals who shouldnt even be in this country.

At the end of the day, the protest was about the racial attack on Rhea Page and the refusal of the left wing controlled, unaccountable CPS and their refusal to charge racial aggravation, and the left wing Judge who felt sorry for the poor oppressed immigrants he found in the dock before him.

All we want is equal treatment under the law, is that too much to ask for? Eleven people were this week jailed for what is little more than a minor public order offence in Carlisle, far less serious than the case in Leicester, as our legal system cracks down on white people but lets immigrants get away.

The EDL have booked a demo for Hyde, Manchester on Feb 25th, police have been told if the attackers are arrested and charged with racially aggravated offences before then, we may stop the demo. But I wouldnt hold your breath. CPS are highly likely to refuse to charge it correctly, so the cost of any demo will then lay at their door. We shall see what happens.

In October 2010 the EDL could only hold a static protest. This year it was given permission to march. Repoter Peter Warzynski witnessed the procession through Leicester

As businesses hoisted their shutters and early bird shoppers stepped off buses, Leicester seemed to be waking up as usual.

There was nothing to distinguish this from any other Saturday morning.

The only difference was the growing number of police, who were arriving on foot, in vans and on horseback.

As they reached their designated posts and their presence became ever more conspicuous the mood changed and, by 11am, a subdued buzz surrounded the Clock Tower.

Journalists, photographers and curious members of the public gathered and spoke in hushed tones about what the day would bring.

At the same time, coach-loads of English Defence League supporters began to arrive at St Margaret’s Pastures, their designated meeting point.

Members from London, East Anglia, Peterborough and Leeds proudly sported their “divisions” on their sweatshirts – along with the phrase “No Surrender”.

They excitedly relayed their hopes for a clash with their biggest adversaries, Unite Against Fascism (UAF), who were beginning to rally the other side of the city centre, near Welford Road.

“I’m going to kick off at the Clock Tower even if no one else does,” boasted one hooded local as he drew on his cigarette.

A burger van served the masses as music boomed from giant speakers.

Every now and then a chorus of “E, E, EDL” would break out and then quickly die away.

Just after noon, the police indicated it was time to begin the march and ushered the 700-strong crowd out of the car park and on to St Margaret’s Way.

The procession was flanked by scores of police, who kept the men, women and children of the EDL from splitting off from the pack.

Horses led the group from the rally point and parents slowly shepherded their children.

Youngsters delighted their mums and dads with anti-Islam chants.

Those views continued throughout their stomp around the city centre.

One boy, of primary school age, was shouting himself hoarse as his mother made anti-Islamic comments.

The floor was covered in spit and mounds of droppings from the lead horses. The masses trudged through both.

Some had bought fishing poles to hoist their flags.

The largest belonged to the smallest man on the march, who could not have stood taller than 4ft 9in.

As the mob moved past the Sky Plaza hotel, in Abbey Street, two loud booms echoed around the street.

Panic spread through the crowd, who thought they were being attacked, only to find it was one their own who had let off firecrackers in the middle of the procession.

As the horde reached the Clock Tower there was a surge forward.

But the front few EDL supporters were met with a wall of stone-faced police.

The snarling taunts and shouts of the hooded and masked men had been sparked by the appearance of the mob’s greatest critics, the UAF.

The crowd was condensed into a swaying sea of bodies, all trying to get closer to the action.

But, sensing defeat, the 12 or so EDL protagonists retreated, no doubt re-thinking their actions after some well placed police baton blows.

When there was a lack of UAF, the hostility turn towards the groups of journalists and photographers who followed the parade from start to finish.

When the pack finally came full circle and returned to St Margaret’s Pastures they listened to the rhetoric of EDL leader Tommy Robinson and local representatives.

The crowd – what was left of them – lapped it up.

But after a while, the snow and speeches got too much for the 700 men, women and children and they skulked back to the 13 waiting coaches.
