Directions issued ahead of March for England protest

3:51pm Wednesday 17th April 2013 in NewsBy Anna Roberts, Crime reporter

Last year's March for England began down Queen's RoadLast year’s March for England began down Queen’s Road

Sussex Police have issued directions to March for England protesters and counter-demonstrators.

They have been issued under the Public Order Act 1986.

Section 14 notices are issued where the Chief Constable believes the directions to be necessary to prevent disorder, damage, disruption or intimidation.

The first notice directs that the assembly will be confined to Madeira Drive.

It said: “The assembly area shall be confined to the road bounded by the pavement running along its southern edge. It will run west as far as the pedestrian crossing next to the aquarium roundabout and as far east as the police crowd control barriers.”

The second notice directs that the assembly will be confined to the southern pavement adjacent to the A259.

It said: “The assembly area will be designated south of the barriers running along the pavement on the upper promenade running as far east as the bollards to the pavement next to Brighton Pier and as far west as the bollards on the pavement next to the ramp leading down to the lower promenade and opposite East Street.

“The assembly area will be confined to the upper promenade only.”

Both notices will be effective from 10am until 3pm and participants are advised that if they do not comply with the directions or incite another person not to do so, they will commit an offence and may be liable to arrest.

Superintendent Steve Whitton said: “As always, our priority is public safety. It is vitally important that those attending the event work with us and comply with directions or other restrictions which we will need to give to keep people safe. This will help to ensure officers can focus their attention on the minority of those who may be intent on causing trouble.

“Due to the risk of disorder on the day we are likely to be stopping and searching more people and have pre-authorised powers to do this under Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994.

“We have a duty to balance the rights of people to carry out a peaceful protest, whether in support of the march or opposed to it, allowing those to go about their normal business in the city, whilst always prioritising public safety through preventing crime and disorder.

“Unlawful behaviour – or that which goes beyond what could be considered reasonable in terms of peaceful protest – will not be tolerated and will be dealt with positively.”

The Argus will be live blogging the event.

‘I can still see the horror that made me flee Pakistan -

in the haunted eyes of girls raised HERE’: Nadira

Naipaul exposes arranged marriages and honour

killings in the UK

By NADIRA NAIPAUL

PUBLISHED: 22:13, 18 August 2012 | UPDATED: 22:19, 18 August 2012

Campaigner: Nadira Naipaul, pictured, has witnessed first-hand the torture inflicted on women in PakistanCampaigner: Nadira Naipaul, pictured, has witnessed first-hand the torture inflicted on women in Pakistan

When I married V.  S. Naipaul and moved to England in 1996, I thought I had left the horror behind.

Pakistan had drained my resolve, and I was tired of fighting a losing battle. To me, England, for all its ills, was the promised land.

Instead, I have found the horror I fled has followed me here. It is all around, eroding the very core of everything Britain believes in.

I see it everywhere. In the haunted eyes of young Pakistani girls, brought up in Britain, who know nothing but a Westernised life: young women who work happily behind beauty counters in our department stores, yet must return home to parents who refuse to emerge from their cultural ghettos.

And who expect their daughters to accept traditional arranged marriages to distant cousins brought up in rural Pakistan.

Desperate to integrate, these young girls change their names to sound more British. They are happy to have white boyfriends, to go clubbing. They certainly do not want forced marriages.

When I talk to them they are seething with anger that their parents – some semi-literate – insist upon entrenching themselves in Muslim ghettos, erecting cultural barriers and refusing to integrate, rejecting any semblance of a British way of life.

I see the same anger in young Muslim men who desperately want to join the mainstream, but cannot because deeply traditional parents expect strict adherence to traditional Islamic family life. It is easy to see how the clash between the generations can become corrosive, how at its most destructive extreme it can culminate in ‘honour killings’.

Take the recent case in Warrington  of Iftikhar and Farzana Ahmed, who murdered their Westernised daughter Shafilea, 17, because she refused to accept a forced marriage.

Honour killing: Iftikhar Ahmed, 52, and his wife Farzana, 49, of Warrington, Cheshire, suffocated their 17-year-old daughter Shafilea with a plastic bag because she refused an arranged marriage Honour killing: Iftikhar Ahmed, 52, and his wife Farzana, 49, of Warrington, Cheshire, suffocated their 17-year-old daughter Shafilea with a plastic bag because she refused an arranged marriage

Inside the courtroom: Iftikhar Ahmed stood impassively as the verdicts were given while his spouse wiped tears from her eyes with a tissueInside the courtroom: Iftikhar Ahmed stood impassively as the verdicts were given while his spouse wiped tears from her eyes with a tissue

At a previous hearing: Iftikhar and Farzana Ahmed were two traditionalist disciplinarians who had very fixed ideas about how their children, particularly their daughters, should behaveAt a previous hearing: Iftikhar and Farzana Ahmed were two traditionalist disciplinarians who had very fixed ideas about how their children, particularly their daughters, should behave

For a decade, while in Pakistan, I wrote extensively about women enmeshed in the restrictions of Islamic law and traditions of honour. Witnessing the torture inflicted on women by husbands, fathers, brothers and even female relatives with the seeming sanction of Islam gradually transformed me into a borderline heretic. It took me years to realise how deeply ingrained these beliefs are. And how difficult it is to combat them.

The tales of two women affected me deeply. While living on my farm in rural Bahawalpur with my first husband, I met Rani, a young woman whose husband was one of my seasonal labourers. I employed her as a maid.

A few months later, we were visited by a minister in the government who was one of the biggest landowners in the area and an old friend of my husband. He arrived with an entourage demanding that I hand over Rani, her husband and her five-year-old son.

Missing: Shafilea Ahmed disappeared in September 2003 and her body was found on the bank of the River Kent in Cumbria the following FebruaryMissing: Shafilea Ahmed disappeared in September 2003 and her body was found on the bank of the River Kent in Cumbria the following February

Rani had been a beautiful child. At the age of ten, her parents, tenants of the minister’s grandfather, ‘gave’ her to the old man. She was regularly sexually abused by the minister, his father and grandfather. The women of the house did not protest, provided the men were discreet.

But when Rani became pregnant they married her off to an old man who often beat her and her son.

A few years later Rani fell in love with a local boy and eloped with him and the child. Now the minister wanted her back.

What, I asked my husband, would happen if we handed her over? He told me they would strip her, tie her to a carriage wheel, flog her, then rape her. She would be defiled in public.

He insisted, however, that we must hand her over. Not to do so would offend an old family friend. If not chastised properly, it would encourage other women to question their lot.

My husband had been educated in England and was the scion of an old, respected family, yet he accepted such things. When he realised I wouldn’t give Rani up, the minister said his ‘face must be saved’. He insisted upon taking the boy. Rani wailed like a banshee. The heartrending sight and sound of her has never left me.

On another occasion, a young woman was doused in petrol and set alight by her father and brother in front of her terrified mother and sisters because she would not marry a man who had abducted her. The family considered her defiled. She had stayed overnight with this man. She must marry him or they would be shamed. When she tried to run away, they murdered her.

These are extreme examples, but stark reminders of the hold these beliefs have on entrenched communities – communities that have, for five decades, been relocating to Britain.

So why, then, have successive Governments refused to acknowledge the incestuous cultures that have evolved in these ghettos? Why does no one challenge the existence of the so-called ‘Islamic Parliaments’, with their retrogressive laws, that exist in cities such as Bradford and Leicester?

Time for change: Nadira Naipaul believes Muslim women, pictured here outside Bangor Street Community Centre in Blackburn, England, should not be forced to wear veils Time for change: Nadira Naipaul believes Muslim women, pictured here outside Bangor Street Community Centre in Blackburn, England, should not be forced to wear veils

In these cities, teams of vigilantes terrorise Pakistani communities. They turn up unannounced to homes, insisting that Ramadan is respected and checking that everyone has come to prayers. They force shops to close, they check that the community is fasting, that women wear the veil.

Let me be clear. No Muslim woman should be forced to wear a veil. No woman wore it in the era of the Prophet. These Muslims may see themselves as community champions, but they are fanatics who make life a misery for young people who want to integrate.

It is time for liberal Muslims to speak out. The defenders of our precious multiculturalism must get real. My message to those who promote these entrenched ghetto ideas is this: go home if you want to practise your form of Islam. There is no place for it here.

Woman dragged off street in #Rochdale and #raped after night out #casualsunited #edl #nwi #sdl #edl Rochdale

5 08 2012

Police have stepped up patrols in Rochdale after a woman was raped behind a row of houses at the end of a night out.

The victim was grabbed from behind by a stranger before he sexually attacked her.

The incident happened at 2am on Saturday, near Belfield Lane, Rochdale.

The woman had been on a night out when she was grabbed from behind by an unknown man near to the junction with Samson Street, forced behind a row of houses and raped.

The rapist is described as Asian, 5ft 2ins, muscular, in his late 30s, clean shaven with short dark hair with long spikes on top.

He was wearing light-coloured baggy jeans, a sandy-coloured belt with a silver buckle and a dark hooded top with a light coloured top underneath.

He wore a stud earring in his left ear and white trainers.

Police say a 33-year-old man who was arrested at an early stage in the investigation has now been eliminated from their enquires.

Detective Inspector Debbie Dooley said: “I know this will cause anxiety in the community but I want to reassure residents we believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no information to connect it to any other current or previous investigations.

“The victim is being supported by specially trained officers and since this happened we have had extra officers in the area to provide reassurance.

“We are continuing our investigation to try and identify the person responsible and it is vital anyone with information about the incident, regardless of how insignificant you think it might be, calls us.

“If you think you recognise someone from the description but are worried about getting in touch I would urge you to do so as we can eliminate anyone who is innocent.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or 0161 856 1812, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

We cannot risk prejudicing these trials. We realise people are angry but at least the police are now doing their job and its partly down to us and our pressure groups. The #CPS – obsessed with prosecuting white people #edl #7/7 #9/11

CPS racist and religious crime data shows rise in

prosecutions

04/12/2006

The Crown Prosecution Service’s Racist and Religious Incident Monitoring report for 2005-2006 shows an increase in prosecutions on the previous year for both types of offences.

Prosecutions for racially aggravated offences rose by 28 per cent with 7,430 defendants, of which the CPS prosecuted 6,123 defendants or 82 per cent. Religiously aggravated cases rose by 26.5 per cent with 43 defendants, of which the CPS prosecuted 41 defendants or 95.3 per cent.

The Director of Public Prosecutions, Ken Macdonald QC said: “Racist and religiously aggravated crimes are particularly nasty because victims are targeted solely because of their identity or beliefs. These crimes don’t just affect individual victims and their families but whole communities.

“The CPS is determined to take a robust view of these cases. Prosecutors will work closely with the police to make sure the strongest evidence is put before the courts to convict offenders.”

The number of defendants pleading guilty has increased by two per cent to 71 per cent in 2005-06, with 16 per cent being found guilty after trial, so that convictions accounted for 87 per cent of the 8,114 charges prosecuted. This is an increase of three per cent on the previous year’s figure.

For the third year, the report carries data on religiously aggravated offences. The overall conviction rate for religiously aggravated offences was 98 per cent, with a significant rise in the number of guilty pleas, from 46.5 per cent last year to 70.5 per cent this year.

A total of 51 religiously aggravated charges were prosecuted, an increase of 18.6 per cent on 2004-05. Nearly 70 per cent of these cases were prosecuted in the magistrates’ courts with religiously aggravated public order offences accounting for almost half the charges.

The actual or perceived religion of the victim was not known in 21 out of 43 cases. In the 22 known cases, 18 victims were identified as Muslim, three as Christian and one as Sikh. The data covers the period following 7 July 2005 London bombings and the number of victims identified as Muslim throughout the whole of last year was 81.8 per cent, a rise of five per cent on the previous year.

Mr Macdonald said: “After the 7 July bombings it was feared that there would be a significant backlash against the Muslim community and that we would see a large rise in religiously aggravated offences.

“The fears of a large rise in offences appear to be unfounded. Although there were more cases in July 2005 than for any other month, the rise did not continue into August and overall in 2005-06 there was an increase of nine cases compared to the previous year.

“From the summary case reports sent to me for religiously aggravated offences, we have noted 12 such cases for the month of July after 7 July and in six of those cases the defendants referred specifically to the London bombings.”

Mr Macdonald said that since January 2006, the CPS has held a series of “Listening, Reassurance and Information” evenings with Muslim communities across the country.

He said: “Part of the purpose of holding these events was to explain how we prosecute cases of racially and religiously aggravated crime and to encourage communities to come forward and report incidents of crime.”

Norwich pub bans English Defence League from meeting as EDL plans city march – News – Norwich Evening News

Posted: June 21, 2012 in News Feed

Marlpit pub on Hellesdon Road, Norwich. The pub's owners have banned the EDL from meeting.

Meetings of the controversial English Defence League have been banned at a Norwich pub after a string of complaints.

About 45 members of the group, which is associated with violent demonstrations, have met at the Marlpit pub in Hellesdon Road. No trouble was reported and another meeting was booked for last weekend. But after complaints about the meetings from an anti-EDL group, the pub’s owners, Enterprise Inns, banned the EDL and the meeting was cancelled.

A spokesman for Enterprise said the licensee had been “reminded of their obligations”. She said: “We have spoken to the publican, who we understand has instructed pub staff to ensure no further meetings of the English Defence League are hosted at the Marlpit pub.”

It it understood the pub agreed to let the EDL hold the first meeting, but after receiving emails complaining, Enterprise Inns urged the landlady to not allow any more meetings.

Green Party councillor for Wensum ward, Lucy Galvin, said she was concerned by the EDL activity in the area.

She said: “Norwich has a long and proud tradition, stretching back centuries, of welcoming people of many faiths.

“The Marlpit pub is a friendly local where people get along well. There’s no room here for groups which seek to set people against each other and cause trouble.”

The EDL, which has an East Anglian division, has attracted controversy since forming in Luton in 2009.

On its website the right-wing group says it protests “peacefully”, but its marches are often marred by violence and arrests, along with counter-protests by anti-fascist groups and trade unions.

The Norwich division of the EDL, which has 75 members on its Facebook page on the internet, is also planning a march through Norwich on October 20.

A spokeswoman for Norfolk police said: “Norfolk Constabulary is aware of content posted online about a planned event, but we have not been formally approached about this matter.”

On its website, the EDL lists the banning of Reverend Alan Clifford of the Norwich Reform Church from using a market stall on Hay Hill as one of the reasons its planned march.

The church was banned from using the stall by Norwich City Council after a complaint it was publishing “hate-motivated” leaflets.

A city council spokesman said: “We have been made aware of this planned event. This is a matter for the police with whom we will be liaising closely in relation to any issues it may present.”

No one from the Norwich branch of the EDL could be reached for comment yesterday.

#UAF out in #Hebden Bridge threatening violence and defending paedophiles – it didnt end well #edl

10 06 2012

West Yorks EDL did a demo in “Hebden Bridge” some commies appeared and attempted to “bully” people and one performed a mock punching gesture and said “bring it on”, properly threatening violence. One EDL supporter who felt in fear of his and others safety, punched the gobby commie in the face. He was arrested but released after 30 minutes with a caution, earlier on in the day the Halifax UAF organiser kevin mottram who is from Hebden Bridge appeared and began to take photos of EDL supporters at Sowerby Bridge train station, Mottram was then chased out of the area by Patriots.

Richie

Weve told them time and time again, like weve told the police. All we want to do is peacefully protest, but these left wing clowns wont let us. They insist on harassing, threatening and even attacking our people. If we are attacked we will defend ourselves using reasonable force as is our legal right. Its not rocket salad.

Op-Ed: NUJ issues urgent notice to members for

Rochdale EDL demo

Richard

By Richard Milnes

Jun 9, 2012 - 3 hours ago in World
Rochdale - The hypocritical National Union of Journalists (NUJ) has issued an urgent notice on its website demanding “that journalists be allowed to do their job without being harassed or threatened” during the EDL Rochdale demonstration.

The demonstration by the English Defence League (EDL) will take place on Saturday, 9 June 2012.

The ‘urgent notice‘ makes reference to a statement appearing on the Casuals United website (which appears to have now been removed). Casuals United is linked to the EDL.

The NUJ was exposed in a previous Digital Journal article for what constituted an attack on press freedom by trying to silence the reporting of events and issues that might not be politically correct.

The article highlighted the NUJ’s behaviour, including its racial discrimination against white people, dictating to the media as to which political parties they should report favourably on, hindering the reporting of any events that might portray those of a specific racial or religious background in a bad light by the threat of disciplinary action; and generally ensuring that a theme of left-wing bias was communicated to its members.

The NUJ’s General Secretary, Michelle Stanistreet, had clearly laid out in an article she wrote in the Communist Morning Star, how she expected the NUJ’s members to report on the EDL.

The NUJ supports the far-left Unite Against Fascism

The NUJ is a supporter of the far-left, ironically named Unite Against Fascism. The list of founding signatories of the UAF includes Jeremy Dear, the former General Secretary of the NUJ.

A history of violence and intimidation from the far-left and Islamic extremist controlled UAF

The officers of UAF include:

Azad Ali

Vice Chair – Azad Ali: In February 2012, The Telegraph exposed “the community affairs co-ordinator of the extremist Islamic Forum of Europe” as a “fascist”.

On his Islamic Forum of Europe blog Mr Ali described the late Anwar al-Awlaki as “one of my favourite speakers and scholars”.

In September 2011, Fox News reported “Senior Al Qaeda leader Anwar al-Awlaki and another American-born militant were killed in Yemen early Friday morning by a CIA-led U.S. drone strike…”

Later in the article, Fox News quotes President Obama as saying about Awlaki “He took the lead in planning and directing efforts to murder innocent Americans…and he repeatedly called on individuals in the United States and around the globe to kill innocent men, women and children to advance a murderous agenda.”

An article in The Telegraph in July 2010 described Azad Ali as “An Islamic extremist who has described al-Qaeda as a “myth””. It accuses him of threatening a reporter after Channel 4’s Dispatches produced a documentary, aired in March 2010, exposing “how a fundamentalist Muslim group [IFE] has secretly infiltrated the Labour party and the broader political system”, “How it wants an Islamic State or caliphate and how it wants to live by Sharia law in the UK.”

Weyman Bennett

Joint Secretary – Weyman Bennett: Part of the leadership ‘Central Committee’ of the far-left, Marxist, Socialist Workers Party (SWP).

The BBC reported that Mr Bennett was arrested at an EDL demonstration in Bolton on 20 March 2010, “on suspicion of conspiracy to commit violent disorder, police said.” He had been the protest organiser for a UAF counter-demonstration.

The Manchester Evening News reported, “Weyman Bennett, Rhetta Moran and Paul Jenkins from Unite Against Fascism were among 74 people arrested during the March demonstration.” It goes on to say “The trio were interviewed by police on two separate occasions but the Crown Prosecution Service has advised that no further action should be taken.”

The Independent reported that police blamed the anti-fascist protesters for provoking the violence. It said that of the 74 people arrested, at least 55 were thought to be from the anti-fascist group and nine from the EDL.

It reports that Assistant Chief Constable Garry Shewan, from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said “We have seen groups of people, predominantly associated with the UAF, engaging in violent confrontation,” and goes on to say “It is clear to me that a large number have attended with the sole intention of committing disorder and their actions have been wholly unacceptable. They acted with, at times, extreme violence and their actions led to injuries to police officers, protesters and members of the public.”

Martin Smith

Assistant Secretary – Martin Smith: Also part of the leadership ‘Central Committee’ of the far-left, Marxist, Socialist Workers’ Party (SWP).

The Independent reported that Martin Smith was also arrested at the Bolton demonstration in March 2010.

Only five months earlier he had been found guilty of assaulting a police officer at a demonstration outside the BBC on 22 October 2009. He was sentenced to 80 hours community service and was fined £450 (£100 payment to the police officer and £350 costs).

Rumours of a rift between #Casuals and #EDL are just wishful thinking #Rochdale

9 06 2012

This week the Commies of Twatter and Expose went into overdrive with rumours and bullsh@t and a few over excitable gimps on Facebook joined in and the Commies got so excited at the prospect that the rumours they were causing were splitting the EDL that they declared this was “the biggest and most damaging split since Blackburn”.

I declare that as a fail. Commie inspired rumours of Marshy slating Tommy and the two having fallen out are just a daydream, it didnt happen.

Commies also daydreamed that Antifa had surrounded a pub in Brighton and Marshy and others had sh@t themselves and ran out the back doors and went home early. Antifa on the day were a joke, didnt have numbers and didnt get anywhere near our lads. Another fail.

Somewhere along the line someone dreamed up that the EDL had received a bill for the day out in Brighton. A day out by individuals to a seaside resort, NOT arranged by EDL and not a demo. Does anyone think such a bill would be valid? Only a Commie fantasist would believe such tosh.

Casuals United girl Jojo will be giving a speech at Rochdale and will put all this bollox to bed by declaring we still support EDL 100 percent.

The reason these two have been politely advised to stay away from #EDL #Rochdale demo

9 06 2012

These pics have been released for info purposes after both men have, on a number of occassions taking pictures and film of people at and around Patriot events and then twittered them around asking who the people are, where they live and work. They want people to recognise you so their Communist friends online can then harass you and try to get people sacked or attacked. These people are both NUJ members and if the NUJ wants other journalists to be able to freely report our events, they should have a look at what these two and a few others are doing, which is causing some of our supporters to take serious offence.

DO NOT allow either of these to take photos of you.
