Brierfield pub damage was ‘pure stupidity’

11:42am Tuesday 21st August 2012 inPendle

A TEENAGER who was part of a gang which invaded a Brierfield pub and started wrecking it, has walked free from court.

Burnley Crown Court heard the 17-year-old had been one of a group of 10 Asian males who pushed their way into The Feathers about two hours after the English Defence League had turned up in the town.

Nobody in the pub was connected with the EDL and it was relatively quiet.

In the disturbance, the landlord and landlady, Michael Metcalfe and Diane Crummet, were both assaulted and injured and damage was caused.

An elderly customer was so frightened he fled into the toilets.

Tables and stools were upended and the defendant, who was not charged with any assault, kicked a 130-year-old door.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted affray and criminal damage, on July 2 last year.

The defendant, who had no previous convictions, was given a 12-month youth rehabilitation order, with 100 hours unpaid work by a judge, who slammed his behaviour as ‘pure stupidity’.

Town halls have launched an astonishing 9,600 spying missions on the public in the past three years.

The surveillance operations exploit anti-terror laws but many are targeting minor offences such as flouting the smoking ban, dog fouling and dropping litter.

Council officers have also gone undercover to carry out ‘test purchases’ at local escort agencies, it was revealed last night.

In other cases, tactics included obtaining phone records and trapping householders putting out rubbish early by using motion-activated cameras on lampposts and inside tin cans.

Families suspected of cheating school catchment area rules have been followed by council ‘spies’.

Civil liberties campaigners said was clear the hugely controversial Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act was being abused.

They urged the Coalition to stop merely ‘tinkering’ with the ‘broken’ law – passed ostensibly to fight terrorist fanatics – and subject it to an overhaul.

In a painstaking report, which took months to compile from Freedom of Information Act requests, the Big Brother Watch group discovered 345 councils had been authorised to use RIPA 9,607 times since 2009 – the equivalent of around nine spying missions a day.

Some 26 local authorities have used RIPA to spy on dog owners to see whose animals were responsible for dog fouling.

A further seven have used their powers to investigate suspected breaches of the smoking ban.

Suffolk County Council conducted a ‘test purchase of dating agency services’.

Stockton Borough Council mounted an operation to check on the ‘proper movement of pigs’ and to investigate a ‘fraudulent escort agency’. No action was taken.

Northumberland mounted three spying operations on a ‘tarmac resurfacing service’. No action was taken.

BBW said Kent was the worst authority in the country for RIPA investigations, with 315 in three years.

Alarmingly, seven public authorities refused under the Freedom of Information Act to disclose why or how often they have used the powers. They included the BBC and Ofsted.

The spies are called ‘covert human intelligence sources’. In many cases they will be council employees, such as dog wardens or trading standards officials, but school children are sometimes recruited to test for the sale of underage alcohol or cigarettes.

Eric Pickles, the communities secretary, admitted councils had been misusing RIPA.

Stockton Borough Council mounted an operation to investigate a 'fraudulent escort agency'. No action was takenStockton Borough Council mounted an operation to investigate a ‘fraudulent escort agency’. No action was taken

He said: ‘Under Labour, councils seriously abused and over-used such snooping powers – for matters as trivial as spying on garden centres for selling pot plants; snooping on staff for using work showers or monitoring shops for unlicensed parrots.’

Mr Pickles said the Coalition had changed the law so that, from November, town halls will require the permission of a magistrate before they can launch snooping missions.

But campaigners and experts – including the Government’s own watchdog – have questioned how much difference the change will make. BBW director Nick Pickles said: ‘The current law is broken and before further surveillance powers are considered we need to fix the situation.

‘Despite nearly ten thousand investigations in three years, most resulted in no action being taken, reinforcing the need for a comprehensive review.’

He wants the public to have a right to know they have been spied upon. Currently, those who are found to be innocent never know they have been under surveillance.

Sir Paul Kennedy, the Government’s Interception of Communications Commissioner, said in his annual report: ‘I still remain unconvinced that the Government’s proposal to require all local authorities to obtain the approval of a magistrate before they can use these powers will have much impact other than to introduce unnecessary bureaucracy into the process.’

However, Mehboob Khan, of the Local Government Association, said that without snooping powers it would be harder for councils to tackle rogue traders.

The BBW report also laid bare the extent to which scores of other public bodies and quangos are spying on the public.

Job Centre Plus made use of RIPA 34,093 times between 2009 and 2012. On almost 18,000 occasions, people were put under surveillance to see if they were living as a couple.

Women are entitled to receive more state handouts if they are classed as living as a single mothers.

BBC REFUSES TO DISCLOSE HOW IT TRAPS LICENCE-FEE EVADERS

The BBC refuses to reveal the tactics it uses to catch licence fee-evadersThe BBC refuses to reveal the tactics it uses to catch licence-fee evaders

A string of public bodies including the BBC have refused to disclose how often they have used the spying powers.

The lack of transparency was yesterday described as ‘unacceptable’ by Communities Secretary Eric Pickles.

Hundreds of state bodies are entitled to use the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act, which was introduced by the last Labour government.

Normally, they reveal under the Freedom of Information Act how many surveillance operations they have carried out and why.

But the BBC, Ofsted, Royal Mail, the UK Border Agency, the Prison Service, Office of Fair Trading and UK Trade and Investment all refused requests from the Big Brother Watch campaign group.

They claimed ‘disclosure would, or would be likely to, prejudice a range of law enforcement functions and activities’.

In the BBC’s case, this is likely to involve operations to catch licence-fee evaders.

Unlike town halls, under a change in the law later this year, public bodies will continue to be allowed to snoop without approval from a magistrate.

Mr Pickles said: ‘For public bodies, funded by and working for the taxpayer, to be using RIPA yet so vociferously trying to avoid accountability is simply unacceptable.

From the BBC to Ofsted, the Royal Mail to UK Trade and Investment, public bodies should be transparent about why there are using these powers.

‘It is important that the public can have faith that surveillance powers are being used only in those situations where serious crimes are taking place and when there are no less intrusive alternative routes of investigation.’

A TV Licensing spokesman said the BBC used RIPA only to detect licence evaders ‘as a last resort’, adding: ‘The reason we do not release more details on how and when it is used is to ensure people without a valid TV licence don’t use this information to their advantage.’

New computer database launched to track down

150,000 illegal immigrants in Britain

An immigration computer database is being set up to track down the 150,000 people who are staying in Britain illegally, it was revealed yesterday.

Border chiefs are due to launch the project next month to deal with the huge backlog of foreign nationals who have overstayed their student or temporary work visas.

Letters will be sent to those in the ‘migration refusal pool’ warning that they will be deported and barred from entering the UK if they do not leave within 28 days.

Thousands of 'overstayers': An immigration database is being set up to track down 150,000 people living in Britain illegally such as this Pakistani man who was arrested for the third time in Walworth, South LondonThousands of ‘overstayers’: An immigration database is being set up to track down 150,000 people living in Britain illegally such as this Pakistani man who was arrested for the third time in Walworth, South London

Private companies currently tendering for the multi-million pound contract include G4S, the controversial security firm which failed to deliver enough staff for the Olympic Games.

Passenger records held in the e-borders database, which covers details of all flights outside Europe to and from Britain, will be checked and there will be careful monitoring of the 100 immigrants whose visas expire daily.

It comes after it was revealed last month that 40 per cent of immigrants who have been refused leave to stay in the country have not been sent the forms demanding they leave.

Reduce backlog: Immigration Minister Damian Green said warning sent to immigrants when their visa expires will reduce numbers who decide to overstayReduce backlog: Immigration Minister Damian Green said warning sent to immigrants when their visa expires will reduce numbers who decide to overstay

Tens of thousands of these lapsed visa cases date back more than five years and are a legacy of Labour’s catastrophic mismanagement of Britain’s immigration system.

Immigration minister Damian Green said he hoped the new scheme would allow Border Agency staff more time to carry out enforcement operations and reduce the backlog.

He said: ‘We’re concentrating much more on enforcement. From debrief interviews we’ve found that a third of people decide to overstay at the point their visa expires.

‘If we can send these people letters warning of the consequences of illegally overstaying then I’m sure we can reduce the total number deciding to remain.’

The move follows a UKBA summer-long drive to remove visa ‘overstayers’ that has led to thousands being removed, with 2,000 of those being in London alone.

The majority of those targeted entered the country on student visas which have now expired. Mr Green said they mainly came from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, Brazil and Nigeria and were now working illegally.

An operation in the capital yesterday resulted in three arrests. Two Pakistani nationals and an Iranian man were arrested in Walworth and Brixton, South London, for allegedly working illegally.

One 28-year-old Iranian was arrested by the same immigration officer at a Halal butchers three years ago. Another Pakistani man smirked as he was led away in handcuffs in what was his third arrest by UKBA staff.

The chief inspector of immigration, John Vine, criticised the UKBA for not having a strategy for reducing the pool of overstayers last month.

The only guidance staff were given for dealing with cases in this 150,000-strong group was that the total size of the pool should not be allowed to increase.

Vine said his greatest concern during his inspection of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight immigration team was over the ’150,000-plus cases nationally that are sitting in a migration refusal pool’.

The chief inspector concluded that UKBA staff reported it being impossible to know whether the 150,000 were still in Britain or had left voluntarily.

In total, the UKBA faces an enormous backlog of 276,000 immigration cases. The growing total includes asylum seekers, foreign criminals and illegal migrants and is equivalent to the population of Newcastle.

MPs sitting on the Commons Home Affairs Committee said the UK has become a ‘Bermuda Triangle’ for migrants, a country where it is ‘easy to get in, but impossible to keep track of everyone, let alone get them out.’

In addition, around 21,000 new asylum cases have built up because officials were able to process only 63 per cent of last year’s applications.

There are also 3,900 foreign criminals living in the community and free to commit more crimes, including more than 800 who have been at large for five years or more.

Toddler thrown like a “rag doll” by Birmingham

A NURSERY nurse dragged a toddler across a mat like a “rag doll” in a Winnie the Pooh playroom, Birmingham Crown Court has heard.

And Kehren Sajid, 31, was also allegedly captured on CCTV roughly treating three other young children.

Sajid, 31, of Victoria Road, Handsworth, has denied four charges of child cruelty and five of common assault.

Nigel Wilkins, prosecuting, said the nursery nurse was working at Small Talk Nursery in Grove Lane, Handsworth. when the alleged offences took place on October 17 and 18 last year.

Jurors were told the children concerned were aged between 13 and 17 months.

The offences were said to have come to light when the nursery manager viewed CCTV footage in relation to an unrelated matter.

Mr Wilkins said she became concerned as to how some of the children were being treated by the defendant and contacted the police.

He said Sajid could be seen throwing a 17-month-old girl onto a mattress, causing her to almost strike her head on a radiator.

Another young girl, aged 14 months, was allegedly carried by one arm on to a mat while a third was held in the air by her left arm as she was carried out of a room.

A fourth child, said Mr Wilkins, was taken off a bed by her arm and put on to the floor.

He said when interviewed by police and shown the CCTV footage, Sajid denied doing anything untoward.

Rachel Barr, the nursery manager at the time, was asked to comment when shown clips of the alleged cruelty in the Winnie the Pooh room.

She said: “It is unacceptable handling a child in that manner. The way the child was thrown on the bed.”

Shown the clip involving the 14-month-old she said: “She is roughly handling the child, the way she is cleaning her face purposely to make her cry.

‘‘There is no care or love or feeling towards the child. She is just treating her like a rag doll, the way she dragged her across the mat.”

And commenting on another clip, she said: “The children are exploring. They are just being children. Grabbing them by one arm and throwing them on the floor is unacceptable.”

Uglier than usual back of a bus

Share on TwitterShare on FacebookYou have heard the expression that someone who is particularly ugly has a “face like the back of a bus”? These are uglier than usual backs of buses, made so by an unpleasant poster. Maybe one in three of the buses I saw this afternoon at Walthamstow Central, on routes around east London or destined for central London bore one of these posters advertising next week’s ‘Al Quds’ march. I have reported on this event before here. As I said then Al Quds is the name some Arabs give Jerusalem. The Ayatollah Khomeni of Iran declared 30 odd years ago that the last Friday in Ramadan was to be Al Quds day, when Muslims the world over are to express their hatred of Israel and their love for the Palestinian Arabs. The ones they keep in camps rather than integrate them into their own respective countries.

The Harry’s Place website has asked their readers to call on Transport for London to remove these adverts, which depict an imprisoned Nelson Mandela, wearing a PLO scarf and looking wistfully through the bars of his cell at the Mosque of Omar in Jerusalem and quote his words on the subject of the ‘Palestinians’.

The guest writer at Harrys Place says: What you can do

Contact TfL’s partner for advertising on London’s buses, CBS Outdoor. You can contact Aiden Dunning, the Director of Legal & Business Affairs, at: aiden.dunning@cbsoutdoor.co.uk (telephone: 020 7428 2874) and feel free to Cc in Mike Hemmings, their head of Marketing, at: mike.hemmings@cbsoutdoor.co.uk (telephone: 020 7428 2852).

If you’re a Londoner, contact your MP, local councillors and assembly members – you can find out who they are and how to contact them, here.

Attempts to advertise their events by other extremist organisations (that’s his opinion of course) including the English Defence League would be rightly crushed. A five minute phone call with your elected representative and a polite e-mail to the gentleman above could be all this needed to get the IHRC off the buses of London.

In previous years the march has been on a Saturday or Sunday. This year the march is actually on a Friday when it is hard for working Englishmen and women to get time off.  Other proposed events during the period of the Olympics have been stopped or the organisors made to re-arrange. That this one is confident of their chosen date to spend so much on advertising makes me wonder what the authorities priorities are.

A cocaine addict mugged an eight-year-old girl for just £3.50 as she walked to the shop to buy sweets.

Naseer Laher, 31, was jailed for four years and three months after a court heard how he cornered Chelsea Dixon in an alleyway in Batley Carr, West Yorkshire.

A judge told him: ‘It doesn’t get much lower than that’ as he sentenced the criminal yesterday.

Chelsea had only a few coins with her, enough to buy sweets from the post office and send letters she had written to her brother Lewis, who was serving in Afghanistan.

Her purse had belonged to her beloved grandmother, who had died four weeks before she was attacked on March 15, Leeds Crown Court heard.

Laher, of Batley, approached her about 4.30pm and asked how much money she had, according to prosecutor Shamaila Quereshi.

She told him she did not have any, but he grabbed the purse and hurt her wrist during the struggle.

A witness saw Laher run away after the attack and went to help the youngster, who was deeply distressed.

Laher was arrested and denied the offence, claiming he had been
appearing in court at the time. Chelsea later picked him out at an identity parade.

At the time of the offence, Laher, who pleaded guilty to robbery at an earlier hearing, was already subject to a community order imposed after he burgled the home of one of his relatives.

Ms Quereshi said Chelsea’s purse has never been recovered and the little girl was crushed, because she had been very close to her grandmother.

She is now afraid to be on her own, the court heard, and is scared to return to the post office.

Chelsea’s mother, Amanda Dixon, described her daughter in a statement as being ’very brave’ in helping the police and identifying her attacker.

Robert Smith, QC, prosecuting, claimed at Leeds Crown Court that the drug was inappropriate for the patients' individual circumstances‘Feeding his addiction’: Laher, 31, was jailed for four years and three months at Leeds Crown Court (pictured) for targeting the young girl

Judge Christopher Batty told Laher: ‘No doubt she was hugely proud of the fact that she had the purse of her grandmother, who had died only a month before.

‘Little did she know she was going to encounter you, a cocaine addict for many years.’

He added: ‘She was easy prey to feed your addiction.’

After the hearing, Det Con Paul Greatorex, of Kirklees CID, said: ‘It is hard
to understand what would compel a grown man to rob a child for such a small amount of money.’

After the incident in March, Chelsea’s mother said: ‘She just came running home, she was a mess.

‘That night she wanted to sleep with me and she didn’t go to school the next day.’

Miss Dixon, said at the time that her daughter had been ‘distraught’ after the purse was snatched. ‘It is all the more painful because of the sentimental value attached to it,’ she added.

‘Despicable’ police officer who raped girl, seven, is

jailed for 18 years

By TED THORNHILL
UPDATED: 19:10, 22 January 2012

Disgraced policeman Mohammed Younis: He has been jailed for 18 years Disgraced policeman Mohammed Younis: He has been jailed for 18 years

A policeman was starting an 18-year jail sentence today for sex abuse which a judge described as one of the ‘most despicable’ cases he had ever heard.

The 43-year-old officer was sacked from Thames Valley Police after being disciplined for repeatedly threatening witnesses who had lodged complaints against him.

He had also phoned a 14-year-old girl witness in a case he was dealing with and asking her to go on a date him.

Judge Francis Sheriden jailed paedophile policeman Mohammed Younas after hearing how he raped a girl who was just seven years old and continued to abuse her for eight years.

He had also turned up to work drunk after consuming a bottle of vodka and was found wandering the streets randomly stopping traffic whilst on duty.

Despite his dismissal from the force, the judge heard that the sexual abuse of the girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, increased,

Younas attacked the young girl, the court was told, because his wife refused to have sex with him. He also forced another child to touch his genitals.

‘This was the most despicable offence. It’s hard to imagine a worse case,’ Judge Sheridan told the disgraced constable as he stood in the dock at Aylesbury Crown Court.

Verdict: Judge Francis Sheriden, speaking at Aylesbury Crown Court, above, described the case as 'despicable'Verdict: Judge Francis Sheriden, speaking at Aylesbury Crown Court, above, described the case as ‘despicable’

Younas had denied the 15 counts of rape and sexual assault against him but was found guilty by a jury and on Friday was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

The court had heard Younas came to the UK from Pakistan and was descended from a respectable family with two of his sisters being consultant doctors and another being a headteacher.

His father was a retired colonel in the Pakistan Army.

However the judge was told that Younas, from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, suffered a nervous breakdown due to his unhappy marriage and went off the rails as a police officer.

It was during the breakdown that the abuse started and continued until the girl had reached the age of 15 years.

At the height of the abuse Younas would rape her every other day and the court heard he would make her touch him whilst they both played a board game.

Judge Sheridan said: ‘You and your wife were totally incompatible, there was a clash of cultures and views on family life.

‘You were dismissed from the police because you were totally unsuitable to be a police officer. You displayed signs of a man on the verge of a breakdown.

‘You walked around the street drunk, stopping traffic. You threatened witnesses who made complaints against you and you rang a 14-year-old girl to ask her to go out with you.

‘The offending started at around the same time. You showed contempt for your wife and you left your victims psychologically damaged. You robbed them of their childhood.

‘It’s the most dreadful, dreadful case I must sentence you for.’

As well as being jailed for 18 years, Younas was handed a Sexual Offences Prevention Order banning him from unsupervised contact or communication with a person under 16.

He was put on the Sex Offenders Register for an indefinite period and given a restraining order banning him from contacting the victims.

Why are the EDL going to Walthamstow in August?

This article is about the London Borough of Waltham Forest which was formed in 1965 when the three Essex districts of Leyton, Walthamstow and Chingford were combined and included in the newly formed Greater London Council. My family had moved to a street just on the border of Leyton and Walthamstow (near but not Boundary Road) a few years earlier. Leyton and Walthamstow was a lovely place to live with the open space of Epping Forest and the River Lea nearby.    The River Lea was the boundary between the counties of Middlesex and  Essex; it remains the boundary between LB Hackney and LB Waltham Forest.  Chingford was more prosperous, almost glamorous with its golf club and Queen Elizabeth’s Hunting Lodge. Today Leyton and Walthamstow are very multicultural, Chingford remains more middle class and I know of many who live there who would dearly love to drop the other two towns, which they subsidise dearly in council tax, pull out of London entirely and re-join Essex County Council. It won’t happen, of course.

The EDL are holding their demonstration in Walthamstow, because it would be impossible to march through the whole borough, but the reasons for concern cover that whole.

It is about much more than Anjem Choudary and his acolytes and the various groups they have formed over the years. But I will start with them. But where exactly do I start? The beginning is a good place but where and when did it begin? For me it was the summer of 1976 when the National Front held a demonstration against the plans to turn a former carpet and textile factory in Lea Bridge Road into a mosque. My mother joined the counter demonstration, believing that everybody has a right to worship God and that a mosque would be no different to the Catholic churches of the Irish and Italian immigrants, the Gospel churches of the West Indians and the Synagogues of the Jews. I was so proud of her.  That became the Jamia Mosque. Little did I know that less than 10 years later that this mosque would hang a banner on its front wall saying ‘God is only one, HE HAS NO SON’ which I found so offensive, and was the beginning of a realisation that Islam was not a religion willing to live and let live.  The mosque has not, so far as I know, been the centre of any terrorist plots. It has been the subject of a power struggle in recent years and produced a sadistic Imam and teacher, Gulam Hussein who was jailed two years ago for beating the children sent to him for religious teaching.

On the same site as the Jamia Mosque is the Active Change Foundation. This organisation is much praised for the efforts it makes in work to prevent radicalisation of youth. What those worthies handing out the praise forget is that it used to be the PO address for Islam4UK and before that hosted meetings of Al Muhajiroun  including live video links to Omar Bakri.

When Al Muhajiroun, founded by Omar Bakri and Anjem Choudary was banned it became Islam 4 UK. Then Muslims Against Crusades (MAC), then Sharia 4 UK, then United Ummah (or was it Ummah United?) I believe the ACF to be the centre of a lot of anti-democracy, pro sharia propaganda over the last 5 years or more.

Anjem’s boys are still in town – I’ll cover their latest project at the end.

The first Muslims in the area were among the expelled east African Asians who included Hindus and Sikhs who settled during the 1960s. I can attest that they were good neighbours, and pleasant classmates. But after 1979, and the Iranian revolution may have had something to do with it the western clothes sprinkled with shalwar kameez and gorgeous saris began to give way to hijabs and abayas for the women, long coats and beards for the men. Then the hijabs became niqabs, and the niqabs became burkas.  The mosques grew larger, more elaborate and more numerous.

Unlike Tower Hamlets the Muslims do not control the council and a multi-million pound budget. There are still Hindus and Sikhs although I believe many joined the exodus into Essex. There are a lot of black Christians, a lot of Poles and east Europeans as well as the indigenous population. The black Evangelical churches have the confidence to evangelise in Walthamstow High Street, near where the Islam 4 UK da’wa stall used to be. It isn’t the weight of numbers of Islam, numerous though they are; it is who they are and what they have plotted.

Their claim to the area was made clear in 2006 when Abu Izzadeen aka Trevor Brooks stood in the sports pavilion at the cricket ground and heckled John Reid the then Home Secretary with ‘How dare you come to this Muslim area’  Izzadeen, who was born in Hackney, converted to Islam as a teenager and now lives in Leytonstone was released from prison last year after serving a sentence for funding terrorism.

I won’t go on at too much length about Anjem Choudary who used to live in Colchester Road, opposite the Noor ul Islam Mosque in Leyton High Road. This is him in action in Leyton explaining what Sharia will do for our traditional way of life.

Last summer the Noor ul Islam mosque held a summer fete on the same cricket ground and imposed their dress code, issuing women wearing sleeveless summer blouses with mosque shirts, high of neck and long of sleeve.

They also hold Muslim only swimming sessions at the Leyton Leisure Lagoon Swimming pool. In common with many pools the Leisure Lagoon has sessions, both pool and gym, especially for women, the over 55s, the under 18s, beginners etc. The difference is that these are Muslim only sessions and run to exact Islamic rules.

Women’s rulesSisters who are not dressed in accordance with Islamic dress code (suitable garment covering the whole body from the neck to the feet or approved swimwear) will be asked to leave the session.
No boys over the age of two will be allowed in the sisters’ session.
Only Female Lifeguards on duty for sisters’ session.
We are selling approved Swimwear for girls & Sisters.

Mens rules:

Brothers who are not dressed in accordance with Islamic dress code (covered from navel to knees) will be asked to leave the session.
No girls of any age will be allowed in the brothers’ session.
Only Male Lifeguards on duty for brothers’ session.

The Noor ul Islam Mosque sprawls a little further up Leyton High Road every time I visit. Having expanded into several shop fronts, some of which include Islamic bookshops they bought the builders yard next door in 2010 although they don’t seem to have begun developing it yet.

This is my report on the  Sharia Zone march Choudary and Izzadeen organised through Leyton and Walthamstow last year, and another report on the Sharia zone proposal prior to that march.

No one who was there will forget the 11th November 2010 when the Muslims Against Crusades defiled Remembrance Day by burning poppies. That took place in Kensington but it was planned and conceived in Waltham Forest by men who live and worship there.

Advertising posters of women modelling non Islamic swimwear were defaced at Walthamstow Central earlier this summer. Picture submitted by a resident to the local MP.

Below. Only Muslims are eligible for accomodation a short distance from this damaged advertisment. I didn’t take that one either.

The Muslims in Great Britain website lists 18 mosques in Waltham Forest.  Another mosque is the Masjid-al-Tawhid further up Leyton High Road. This mosque was mentioned in the Channel Four Dispatches documentary Undercover Mosque.

Suhaib Hasan, the senior imam was heard encouraging violence against women, homosexuals and non-Muslims, and recommending “The chopping of the hands of the thieves, the flogging of the adulterers. . .Then jihad against the non-Muslims” This is a transcript of the three programmes.

He is also the senior Judge of the nearby Sharia Court. His interview with the Financial Times in 2009 when he praised the virtues of Sharia law over that of the English Common Law is no longer available on the FT website. However I made notes.

Dr Hasan’s son is Dr Usama Hasan (a genuine doctorate in physics and engineering) He spoke at the Mosque last year about his belief in the compatibility of Darwin’s theory of Evolution with Islamic belief that life was created by Allah. “Many believers in God have no problem with an obvious solution: that God created man via evolution”. He also does not believe that the veil is imperative for women.  Worshippers at the mosque which he had attended for 25 years called for him to suffer the death penalty. He retracted his statement, increased his family’s security and now keeps a low profile. His father’s reaction to his son’s liberal beliefs is unknown to me.

The Masjid-al-Tawhid is currently under investigation by the Charity Commission over suspected links to terrorism. The mosque has hosted Abu Qatada and Anwar al-Awlaki, more recently Haitham al-Haddad who inspired the underpants bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. The current administration of the mosque claim that they had nothing to do with the invitations to these speakers, and that these allegations of terrorist links are being made by disaffected elements within the mosque. Whether they mean Usama Hasan I don’t know. We shall see in due course.

The Masjid e Umar Mosque (left) in Queens Road used to be a Synagogue. At first the mild mannered men who were my neighbours worshipped there. By 1989 Omar Bakri was active on site, until Tablighi Jamaat took over and threw him out. More land was purchased and a forbidding new building took its place. A minaret that resembles a scud missile looms over the nearby Victorian cemetery. That building and some of the terraced houses opposite were the centre, although the mosque trustees denied it, of the 2006 plot to bring down aircraft flying from UK to USA using liquid bombs secreted in baby milk and other innocent containers. The Times found out that it had been a recruiting ground for terrorists for 20 years.

The call to reject freedom and democracy and embrace sharia is not recent. This one was spotted outside the Masjid al Tawhid in April 2011.

I have seen posters to that effect as long ago as 2007 when my husband and I spotted these (below) on a lamppost just outside the Active Change Foundation on the corner of Lea Bridge Road and Northumberland Road.

One unusual mosque in Walthamstow Old village in what used to be the GPO sorting office is the Sakina Islamic Centre which is a Shia Twelver Mosque. It was said to be the only mosque in the country with a cross above it, carved into the Royal Coat of Arms of the old Post Office, alongside which the black flag flew. It used to be noted for its strong women’s involvement with a smaller male area and a reputation for great cooking. The website currently shows very little of the women’s activity in contrast to a few years ago; I fear that there may have been changes.

Waltham Forest has more than its fair share of ‘honour’ violence and rape. This is a brief selection.

Only last month a man was convicted of killing his brother’s wife because ‘she was too powerful’. Toquote the prosecution, in this “house of traditional patriarchal values. . . As astonishing as it seems, the first two defendants, both older men, believed that a women was disposable if she became too powerful.”

Two years ago Awais Akram nearly died when his girlfriend’s family poured drain cleaner down his throat in an attack she helped set up, presumably to save her own skin.

Rizwan Ahmad and Hassan Siddique both of Walthamstow were convicted of raping a young student in an alley off Lea Bridge Road in 2011. Sentencing, Judge Owen told the two rapists: ‘What you did was despicable. Your story was simply ludicrous. . . Jailing Ahmad for 10 years, and Siddique for eight-and-a-half years, Judge Owen added: ‘If it is necessary I will recommend most strongly that you are deported at the conclusion of your sentence.’

In 2009 Mehmet Goren was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his daughter 10 years ealrier. His brothers in Walthamstow were suspected but not convicted, of assisting him after a family conference about how to deal with their westernised niece . Her body has never been found.

Halal is ubiquitous. No matter how carefully the council may paint the shops at the Olympic end of Leyton High Road in terracotta and bottle green to make them look like boutiques nothing can disguise their content of halal fast chick and cheap phone deal to Pakistan.

The Brothers latest project is the “No to Prostitution” campaign to rid Lea Bridge Road of prostitutes. There is a cheap(ish) motel at the Bakers Arms end of this very long road which I know from other sources has a problem in that it attracts both drug dealers and ladies of negotiable affection. The motel is on two sites either side of the road. One site was a petrol garage, the other a ladder factory. The current land usage in and around Lea Bridge Road is the history of the decline of British manufacturing in microcosm.

Were I still living in my old home I would not find a red light district in the next street comfortable – and I dread to think what my late mother would have made of it. But da Bruvverz are ignoring the unpalatable fact that many of the ladies customers are (I have this on good authority) Muslim men, and that not all women walking along the pavement are prostitutes. And they don’t deserve such abuse even if they are. This is the local paper reporting on the campaign.

They also claim that kerb crawling and prostitution are a problem in Queens Road and the St James area. This is denied by local residents who have made some very instructive comments. I can tell you that Queens Road and roads thereof no longer have any pubs. All the shops are Muslim run, the mosque dominates. The inhabitants of  the cemetery and Coroner’s office are unlikely customers. That leaves the newly opened Primary school built to accommodate the rising population on the old arts centre. It must be all those marriageable 9 year olds causing trouble. Oh and the men who flock in and out of the mosque.

Abu Usamah one of the organisors said: “”The situation has got out of control. If you come here at night there are lots of scantily clad women and kerb crawlers all over the place. . . . We’ve already gone out a few times with cameras to try it out. Due to the strength of the community among Muslims here I think it is unlikely any of us will get hurt. We are all Muslims but of course we are appealing for the wider community to get involved.”

Usamah invites readers to watch the videos of their nights of action in June. “Dirty prostitutes off our streets” has a familiar rhythm.

Chingford may not escape – plans were mooted to extend the mosque there. Waltham Forest is not a borough with much claim to fame, other than Leyton Orient FC of course, but things plotted and hatched there have had international consequences.

Two held over £162m fraud

Published on Saturday 20 September 2008 09:24

TWO brothers have been arrested following raids in Wakefield in connection with a £162m fraud.

The action is part of an investigation by HM Revenue & Customs officers into money laundering offences and VAT fraud involving carousel fraud, a sophisticated scam.

The men, both in their 30s and from the Wakefield area, were arrested following an investigation by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) into a

business trading in mobile phones and cars. One has also been arrested for conspiracy to cheat the public revenue. They have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Documents, paperwork, mobile phones and computers were seized from one residential and two commercial properties in Wakefield. The money laundering is believed to involve over 2m and the carousel fraud 160m.

HMRC assistant director Robert Gray said: “These arrests are the result of strenuous efforts by our teams of dedicated officers to disrupt the sophisticated scams of those bent on stealing money from the public purse, evading tax and exploiting individuals through illegal employmentpractices.

“We are committed to bringing them to justice.”

The operation was assisted by officers from West Yorkshire Police.

In carousel fraud, companies import goods from an EU member state company into the UK. However the importer vanishes and does not declare its UK sales to the taxman. Goods are instead passed through a number of UK companies and then exported back to the original European supplier. The process then starts again with the same goods.

The final UK company in the chain, which exports the goods back to Europe, makes zero- rated sales for VAT purposes but crucially this company can claim VAT back on the purchase of goods from within the UK. This is where the loss occurs as the original importing company has “gone missing” and has never declared the cash it owes to the taxman

UK Border Agency has a backlog the size of #Newcastle #edl #casualsunited #toonarmy

23 07 2012

23 July 2012

The troubled UK Border Agency faces a backlog of cases equivalent to the population of Newcastle, MPs warned today.

Missing foreign criminals, failed asylum seekers, illegal immigrants and others refusing to leave the country make up more than 275,000 cases which the agency still needs to deal with, the Commons Home Affairs Select Committee said.

Keith Vaz, the committee’s chairman, said the backlog, which will take years to clear, was unacceptable, adding that the agency seems to have “acquired its own Bermuda triangle”.

“It’s easy to get in, but near impossible to keep track of anyone, let alone get them out,” the Labour MP said.

“This is the first time that the committee has collated all the cases at the UK Border Agency that await resolution. This backlog is now equivalent to the entire population of Newcastle upon Tyne.”

The latest damning report on the agency’s work also said the committee did not believe the Government’s aim of cutting the 260,000 student visas issued each year by a quarter would benefit the UK.

Students should be excluded from the net migration figures instead, it said.

Britain would then continue to attract international students, a market worth £7.9 billion, and still be able to aim to meet Prime Minister David Cameron’s pledge to cut net migration from 250,000 to the tens ofthousands by 2015, the report said.

Mr Vaz added: “This will enable the Government to encourage students to come to the UK whilst maintaining their position on curbing immigration.”

University chancellors and campaigners have urged Mr Cameron to class international students as temporary rather than permanent migrants, removing them from the figures.

But Immigration Minister Damian Green has said students staying for more than a year are not visitors and their numbers affect communities, public services and infrastructure.

Today’s report, looking at the agency’s work between December last year and March, also called for the agency to make all its inspections of colleges unannounced, rather than giving them advance notice so key people and documents can be ready.

“If we are to eliminate bogus colleges from the education landscape and employers that abuse the immigration system then visits will have to be unannounced, robust and thorough,” it said.

On the backlog, the committee said it included at least 150,000 migrants who have been refused permission to stay in the UK but who may still be in the country illegally, 21,000 asylum cases, and 3,900 foreign offenders living in the community.

A further 57 foreign criminals who were released in 2006 without being considered for deportation have not yet been traced.

And the so-called controlled archive, used for cases where the agency has lost track of the applicant, contains 80,000 asylum applications and 21,500 immigration cases, the report said.

The agency “does not have a strong record in deporting foreign national offenders” and should set up a team to examine why the foreign criminals living in the community had not been deported and then to ensure that they are sent home, the MPs said.

In future, deportation proceedings should begin as soon as a prisoner is sentenced to speed up the process, they added.

A Home Office spokesman said: “This report highlights the improvements we have made to tackle the huge backlog of cases we inherited. Over 2,000 overstayers have recently been removed following targeted enforcement activity, foreign national offenders are being removed more quickly and we are performing well against visa processing targets.

“Talented students are welcome in the UK, but we have introduced new powers to toughen up the system, keeping out the fraudulent and unqualified while ensuring genuine students continue to benefit from our excellent educational facilities.

“The report has raised some legitimate concerns about issues that we are aware of and are already tackling.”

This is Phil Dickens, a Communist who is trying to cause a riot in #Liverpool on Saturday #edl

19 07 2012

This is Phil Dickens, he works for the PCS Union and is a persistent Communist agitator, who loves to cause trouble and hates patriotism. He is responsible for calling this Antifa/IRA march in Liverpool on Saturday. He has done this simply because he is still sore that hundreds of patriots disrupted an IRA march and forced it to be stopped in Liverpool not so long ago. This man is determined that this Saturday will see the patriots get a kicking and to try and ensure this he has been leafleting in the Toxteth area. His leaflets falsely claim that nazi groups will be invading Toxteth. The leaflet even says they need “anyone that can fight” out on the streets. A CLEAR incitement to violence. Once again, so called “antifascists” show their support for terrorist organisations. They have roped in a group called the 32s who are supporters of the Real IRA as well, as Dickens is determined that there will be trouble and it looks like he will get his wish.  Our people will be going there to peacefully protest, to stop child killers marching in celebration, but Dickens is talking in terms of violence, and this man represents a Union? He should be sacked. The fact that he hasnt been shows that it is infested with Communists. Enemies of Britain. Shame on them.
