An immigrant sex attacker who managed to claim asylum in Britain begged to go home to Iraq after he was jailed for four years.

Rasul Abdullah, 31, was branded a ‘menace’ and a ‘sexual predator’ after he groped two women in a nightclub on the same night and then took a young mother captive and molested her while on bail.

Abdullah begged a judge at Burnley Crown Court in Lancashire to send him back to Iraq saying he ‘no longer wanted to stay in Britain’ after he was convicted of two charges of sexual assault and one of assault by penetration.

The offences occurred over a three month period after Abdullah, an Iraqi Kurd, was allowed by the Government to remain in the UK indefinitely.

He will now serve his sentence in a British jail and could be deported afterwards.

One of the nightclub victims said her once confident personality had dissolved after the attack and she became afraid to leave the house.

The young mother said she no longer went out or interacted with anybody and was frightened of coming across her attacker again.

Abdullah was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life and was given a 10 year sexual offences prevention order, banning him from entering or remaining anywhere licensed for the consumption of alcohol on the premises, between 11pm and 8am.

Sentencing, the judge Mr Recorder Nick Clarke QC told him: ‘I saw for myself the impact that these offences had on these women.

‘I have no doubt that you were a sexual predator, who took opportunities to impose yourself upon each of the three separate victims. At the time you were clearly out of control and you were certainly a menace to the women that you targeted.’

Earlier Mr Joe Boyd, prosecuting, said the first offences too place just after 2am, last November 6, when one of the women was on the dance floor in Pharoah’s bar in Burnley.

She felt a hand go underneath her skirt and she jumped forward before turning to see who the culprit was.

The victim was said to be ‘very upset’ and pointed out Abdullah, as he came out of the ladies’ toilets, to the bar manager.

Abdullah was detained by staff until police arrived to arrest him. Whilst the woman was still in tears following the assault, a second woman approached her to say he had also groped her by putting his hand up her dress and touching her bottom.

She was extremely angry and also upset. The second victim said she had seen Abdullah going into the ladies’ toilets. When she subsequently went to the lavatory, an Asian man had put his head around the door and she realised it was the same man.

Both women picked out Abdullah at an identity parade. He was questioned but bailed and the following January began chatting up the young mother after spotting her pushing her baby in a pram ouside his home.

Abdullah asked her in and ‘stupidly ; she agreed, out of politeness. But as the baby looked on, he suddenly locked the front door, grabbed the young woman and tried to hug, kiss and touch her.

She pushed him off, screamed and shouted to be let go and he finally unlocked the door and let them out.

Mr Boyd said : ‘She was extremely upset by what had happened and spoke to the headmistress at the school where one of her children attended. Police were called and the defendant was arrested.’

Abdullah claimed to officers the women who had been in the nightclub were mistaken or simply lying. When asked about the third victim, he claimed the young mother had been banging on his door demanding sex before going into his house saying: ;I love you. I love you.’

Abdullah claimed he was ‘extremely frightened’ of the young mum and added: ‘She was just after sex – I threw her out of the house.’

His counsel Martin Hackett said: ‘I concede at the outset that clearly there has to be a custodial sentence. These were very unpleasant offences.’

Before he was taken from the court dock, Abdullah told the judge, through his Kurdish- speaking interpreter that he wanted to be sent back to Iraq. He said : “ I don’t want to stay in this country anymore.”

After the case, Det Con David Greenwood commended the “ professionalism” shown by the staff of Pharoah’s on the night of the two attacks.

He said the manager, Shaun Grogan had detained Abdullah at the scene and held him until police arrived. The officer continued : ‘Without the involvement of the staff and their actions at the time, the likelihood is this man may have gone untraced and unpunished.’

£1,000 bill as student loses EDL demo appeal

9:29am Friday 2nd March 2012

A STUDENT has been ordered to pay a legal bill of almost £1,000 after his appeal against his conviction following Bolton’s EDL protest failed Liam McCafferty, aged 20, was convicted by Bolton magistrates last June of shoving a police officer when he was supporting United Against Fascism in a counter rally against the English Defence League in Bolton town centre in March 2010. He was fined £100 for the offence — but he appealed against the conviction.

At Bolton Crown Court yesterday, the University of East Anglia politics and philosophy student claimed his arms might have come into contact with a police officer manning the cordon keeping EDL and UEFA protestors apart, but that was because he was shoved from behind when the crowd surged forward.

A witness, Andrew Butler, said Mr McCafferty, from Doncaster, had seemed bewildered by the pushing and shoving and had his arms up to protect himself.

But Judge Steven Everett ruled the police officers who testified against Mc- Cafferty had given an honest account.

Judge Everett said: “Either the police officers got together to tell a whole pack of lies about a person they are indifferent to, or they saw a deliberate blow.

“Mr McCafferty saw the police officer in front of him and he decided in the heat of the moment to strike out a few sly blows.”

Afterwards, McCafferty said: “I’m surprised at the verdict. I did nothing wrong. I went there for a peaceful protest.

“I felt the conviction was unfair and am disappointed my appeal has failed.

“It won’t put me off protesting in future.”

McCafferty was ordered to pay £200 court costs added to the £630 costs from the previous court hearing, his original £100 fine and a £15 victim surcharge.

When he offered to pay the fine at £10 a month, Judge Everett shook his head and said: “He can afford to swan off to London for these protests when he wants to.

“He has had his day in court and must be aware that he must pay towards it.”

McCafferty was ordered to pay costs at £5 a week.

Manchester Community Leader calls for calm after the attacks by his community are revealed

10 02 2012

A community leader has appealed for calm after two alleged ‘race-hate’ attacks.

Afzal Khan, former Lord Mayor of Manchester and joint chairman of the Muslim-Jewish Forum, spoke out after the incidents in Hyde and Rochdale. Police said both were being regarded as racially-motivated hate-crimes because they were perceived as such by the alleged victims. Coun Khan said: “We all condemn any form of violence no matter who it is committed by. It is the duty of everyone who has information to come forward and help the police. “Retaliatory or tit-for-tat attacks will not help.” Two teenagers were allegedly beaten by a gang of up to eight Asian men in Hyde at the weekend. Daniel Stringer-Prince, 17, suffered a fractured skull and two fractured eye sockets. His best friend Kavan Brown, also 17, suffered a broken nose. In a separate attack, a 21-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were attacked in Rochdale by three Asian men. Both were punched in the face as they walked on a footpath close to Sandbrook Retail Park, in Edinburgh Way. The 21-year-old was hit with a bottle before being repeatedly kicked and punched to the head and body as he lay on the ground. The attack happened at 8.15pm on January 28. The thugs ran off towards Deeplish. Det Con Ben Harris, from Rochdale CID, said: “This was a completely unprovoked and relentless attack that has left both victims shocked by their ordeal. “I can understand why this has caused concern within the community. “However, we cannot speculate why they were attacked and I do not want anyone to presume this has happened for a specific reason.” Anyone with information should phone 0161 856 8716 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Ali Haydor, 21, of Croft Street, Hyde has been charged with assault in connection with the alleged attack in Hyde. A 17-year-old boy who was arrested on suspicion of assault in connection with the same incident has been bailed until April 23.

Only 8 suspects to go then
